Opening of the Vietnamese Speaking Contest for Foreign Students in Vietnam in 2023 - Preliminary round in the Northern region

This morning, October 28, 2023, the 2023 Vietnamese Speech Contest for Foreign Students in Vietnam - Preliminary round of the Northern region was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH).
With the aim of enhancing Vietnamese cultural exchange with countries around the world; creating a playground to help improve Vietnamese proficiency for international students outside of their time studying and living in Vietnam; and at the same time contributing to promoting Vietnamese education and culture to international friends, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) organizes the Vietnamese Speaking Contest for foreign students studying in Vietnam in 2023. The opening ceremony and the preliminary round of the Northern region were held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) on October 28, 2023.
 
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc - Deputy Minister of Education and Training delivered the opening speech of the Vietnamese Speaking Contest for foreign students in Vietnam in 2023.
 
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the contest, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc - Deputy Minister of Education and Training emphasized that Vietnamese Language and Culture are increasingly affirming their position in the international arena, and more and more foreigners are interested in learning and studying them. Vietnamese has also become one of the foreign languages ​​taught in many educational institutions in many countries and territories around the world.
The “Vietnamese Speech Contest for Foreign Students 2023” has received a great response from training institutions across the country, from foreign students of diverse nationalities. This is one of the clearest evidences of the deep interest and love of international friends for the country, people and culture of Vietnam.
Launched in August 2023, the 2023 Vietnamese Speech Contest for Foreign Students in Vietnam has attracted the participation of many universities, colleges, and Vietnamese language training institutions with foreign students studying and researching. 65 training institutions from 29 provinces/cities nationwide have registered to participate.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi shared the honor when the school was assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to be the host of the Vietnamese Speaking Contest for foreign students in Vietnam in 2023 - Preliminary round in the Northern region with the theme "Vietnam in me".
Emphasizing the tradition of research and training in the field of social sciences and humanities, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan said that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi is one of the leading units in the country in research and training of Vietnamese. The school has made direct contributions to Vietnamese language training and research on Vietnamese language training methods. Up to now, the school has a team of excellent and pioneering Vietnamese linguistics experts, assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to lead Vietnamese language training programs for foreigners.
The school has implemented many domestic and international training programs, performing cultural diplomacy tasks, such as the implementation of the Vietnamese Channel for Overseas Vietnamese, which has been applied in many countries around the world. The school has a tradition of advising on important policies to honor the Vietnamese language and build a Vietnamese language training curriculum system. VNU-USSH's hosting of the "Vietnamese Speaking Contest for Foreign Students in 2023" will contribute to Vietnamese language training and spreading Vietnamese culture to friends around the world.
 
Leaders of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU received and discussed with leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training about organizing the Contest.
 
Currently, there are about 22 thousand foreign students studying in Vietnam. In the past 5 years (2016-2022), Vietnam has 155 educational institutions receiving and training more than 45,000 foreign students from 102 countries and territories. On average, every year, from 4,000 to over 6,000 international students are admitted to educational institutions in Vietnam, most of whom study Vietnamese language/Vietnamese studies, majors taught in Vietnamese, so it is necessary to use Vietnamese in life and study.
The impressive figures above show that Vietnamese language and culture are increasingly attracting international students. Vietnamese education, especially higher education, is gradually affirming its position on the global education quality and reputation rankings. The relationship and trust between Vietnam and other countries, territories, regional and international organizations are being promoted and deepened. Teaching and learning Vietnamese is not only about teaching language but also about promoting culture, spreading national identity and improving intercultural communication skills for international students studying in Vietnam in particular, foreigners and those who love Vietnamese language and culture in general.
 
The Vietnamese Speech Contest for foreign students studying in Vietnam in 2023 has received the attention of many agencies and departments, especially universities and academies nationwide.

"Vietnamese Speech Contest for Foreign Students in Vietnam" 2023
Regional Preliminary Round and National Finals The competition is organized in a centralized format. The preliminary round is organized in 3 clusters: Cluster 1 (Northern region), Cluster 2 (Central region), Cluster 3 (Southern region).
Preliminary round of Cluster 1including 35 competing teams (divided into 2 groups) held on October 28, 2023 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi;Preliminary round of Cluster 2including 16 competing teams held on November 3, 2023 at the University of Foreign Languages ​​- Danang University; The preliminary round of Cluster 3 including 13 competing teams was held on November 10, 2023 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Ho Chi Minh City National University.
National Finalswill take place on December 1, 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of 12 excellent teams selected from 3 Competition Clusters.
In the form of a speech contest, each team will select 2-3 main speakers, with a maximum presentation time of 7 minutes for each part. The speakers will present their speeches in Vietnamese on a topic of their choice, and may use accompanying illustrations to increase the appeal and persuasiveness of the contest.
The Organizing Committee will award a total of 60 prizes including: 04 First prizes, 08 Second prizes, 12 Third prizes and 24 Encouragement prizes for 4 competition groups of 3 Competition Clusters in the Preliminary Round; 01 First prize, 02 Second prizes, 03 Third prizes, 6 Encouragement prizes in the Final Round. The winning teams will receive prize money, Award Flags and Certificates.
