Results of the Social Sciences ranking of Vietnam National University, Hanoi in THE WUR by Subjects 2024.
With a mission to be at the forefront of training high-quality, highly skilled human resources; researching, creating, and disseminating knowledge in social sciences and humanities, over nearly 80 years of history, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has affirmed its leading position in research and training in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, making significant contributions to Vietnam National University, Hanoi's world rankings in this field.
In the 2024 THE WUR by Subjects ranking, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continues to maintain the 6 fields it was ranked in the previous ranking and adds two new fields: Clinical and Health and Education. Education, assessed for the first time by THE, achieved a ranking of 401-500 globally, making it the first and only educational institution in Vietnam to be ranked, affirming VNU's position in research and training in the field of education. Clinical and Health, also assessed for the first time by THE, achieved a ranking of 601-800. Thus, VNU now has 8 out of 11 fields ranked by THE.
Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) is increasingly demonstrating its position as a multidisciplinary and multi-field training institution, continuously increasing the number of ranked fields across ranking periods: from 2 ranked fields in 2020, to a breakthrough to 8 fields in the 2024 ranking period.

2. Social Sciences: ranked 501-600;
3. Clinical and Health: ranked 601–800;
4. Business and Economics: ranked 601–800;

Rankings of VNU's fields in the THE WUR by Subjects ranking across various periods.
THE World University Ranking by SubjectThe ranking utilizes data sources derived from surveys (conducted by THE), the Scopus database (published by Elsevier), and data provided by higher education institutions. For the 2024 ranking, THE used a new set of criteria (THE WUR 3.0) comprising 18 evaluation criteria with adjusted weighting to suit each individual field (an increase of 5 criteria compared to THE WUR 2.0 in previous rankings) across 5 groups of criteria:
- Teaching;
- Research Environment;
- Quality (Research Quality);
- Technology transfer (Industry);
- Level of internationalization (International Outlook).
Previously, on September 28, 2023, the THE ranking organization also announced the results of the 2024 World University Rankings (THE WUR 2024), in which Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) was ranked in the 1201-1500 group out of 1904 higher education institutions ranked. This was also the ranking with the most participating higher education institutions, with 2673 institutions from 127 countries and territories; further consolidating its position as a leading training institution in Vietnam, with the Teaching criterion ranking first in Vietnam.
