The resilience of a girl who started out as a student specializing in Literature.Few would have expected that a girl who started out as a literature student would decide to embark on a path of data analysis and challenging economic problems. Tue Giang will be studying for a Bachelor of Economics & Business Economics degree at Erasmus University Rotterdam. This is one of the most prestigious universities in Europe, ranked Top 2 in the Netherlands and Top 55 globally in the field of Economics according to the reputable QS Ranking 2025.
The Philip Hans Franses Scholarship that Tue Giang won is an extremely rare award, given to only 4 recipients worldwide each year and is the only scholarship at this university for economics undergraduates. To achieve this accomplishment, Tue Giang not only had to possess an impressive application and essay, but also had to pass a rigorous economics knowledge test to be selected for the highly competitive, limited-student program.
Different thinking stems from choices. In her inspirational essay, instead of flowery arguments, Giang focused on the shift in mindset following real-world experiences. She shared: "I no longer focused on making arguments persuasive, but rather on understanding why people make certain choices when their options are limited. That way of thinking is what attracted me to Economics."
It was this insightful perspective that helped Giang and her team achieve resounding success at the International Humanities Conference (IHS 2024) in Singapore. Their research project on improving meals for children in mountainous regions won a Silver Medal – the Outstanding Research Award – and the Most Innovative Presentation Award.
A testament to leadership and an impressive track record.
Not only is Tue Giang excellent in research, but she is also a dynamic young leader, serving as the President of the English Club (HSSH - HEC). In 2025, she demonstrated her personal prowess by becoming an official speaker at TEDx Greenwich with her talk "The Silent Chains of the Digital Age".
Giang's persistent efforts have been recognized through prestigious awards:
- Awarded the title "Outstanding Student" at the Hanoi City level for the 2023-2024 school year.
- Awarded the title "Outstanding Student" at Hanoi National University for the 2023-2024 academic year.
- The title "Outstanding Young Person at the Grassroots Level in 2024" was awarded by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
- 7.5 IELTS and Third Prize in the Vietnam National University Hanoi English Olympiad.
Gratitude and the horizon aheadLooking back on her journey, Tue Giang expressed her appreciation for the solid foundation that her family, school, and friends had built for her. First and foremost, she extended her deepest gratitude to her parents and older sister, who have given her boundless love, always inspired her, and served as role models for her in terms of dedication and diligence in her studies and work.
Furthermore, I would like to express my special gratitude to Principal Nguyen Quang Lieu, homeroom teacher Pham Hai Linh, and all the teachers who have taught me. Their kind guidance and valuable opportunities have helped me to confidently test my abilities and step out into the wider world.
We wish Tue Giang continued success on her new journey in the Netherlands, carrying the pride of a student from the Specialized School of Humanities to international recognition!
