The University of Social Sciences and Humanities officially opens its 28th undergraduate program: Cinema and Popular Arts.

On April 26, 2024, the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi officially signed Decision 1683/QD-VNU on the promulgation of the Bachelor's degree program in Film and Popular Arts (pilot program) and assigned the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to officially recruit students in 2024.

Basic information about the Bachelor of Cinema and Popular Arts program.

Program name: Cinema and Popular Arts
English: Cinema and Popular Arts
Training duration: 4 years
Training assignment unit: University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi
Admission scope: Nationwide and international
Enrollment size: 50 students will be admitted in the first year of the program (2024); from the second year onwards, the enrollment will be approximately 60-80 students.

Knowledge and skills system

Students majoring in Film and Popular Arts at VNU-USSH will be equipped with a comprehensive knowledge system encompassing general knowledge, field-specific knowledge, knowledge of the discipline group, knowledge of the subject area, and specialized knowledge, enabling them to possess a holistic and systematic understanding of film, art, and social sciences and humanities.
This includes a block of knowledge organized by subject area and a block of knowledge specifically focused on knowledge directly related to the field of film and popular arts, such as: Popular arts in the digital age, General overview of film and television genres, General history of world cinema, Korean and Japanese popular culture, Narrative, virtual reality and digital technology, Popular music, Contemporary visual arts, Contemporary theater and performance arts, Film drama in multimedia creation, Vietnamese and world cinema, Film curation and art curation, Film screenwriting, Film directing, editing, cinematography, Sitcoms, television series and reality television, Film research and criticism, Art media, Film project and fund management, Film production and archiving, etc.
In addition, students will be trained in professional and supplementary skills necessary for careers related to film and the arts.

Job opportunities for graduates of Film and Popular Arts programs at VNU-USSH.

Upon graduation, with the knowledge and skills acquired, graduates in Film and Popular Arts can undertake and excel in many of the following job positions:
- Screenwriting for film, television, theater, and various multimedia productions;
- Researchers, film and popular arts critics at research institutes, press, media, television, and cultural and artistic organizations;
- Teaching about cinema and popular arts at educational institutions;
- Directing, producing, distributing, and archiving film and popular arts projects;
- Film curator and art curator;
- Specialist in arts and film communications;
- Museum/gallery management;
- Project management for contemporary theater and arts.
- Creating digital content;
- Develop a communication and promotional plan.
