The 2020-2021 academic year holds special significance for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, as it marks 75 years since President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree establishing the Faculty of Literature, the predecessor of the University; and also the culmination of a quarter century of the University's establishment and development as a member of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. This year, the University welcomes its first cohort of students from the High School for Social Sciences and Humanities – the newest members of the Humanities family, marking the expansion of the University's training programs.

On October 9, 2019, the Hanoi People's Committee signed a decision to establish the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, affiliated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities is a public educational institution within the national education system and the Hanoi high school system. The school aims to develop into a high-quality educational institution, reaching regional and international standards. Its goal is to contribute to identifying and training students with outstanding abilities and talents in the fields of social sciences and humanities, fostering individuals with a solid knowledge base; self-learning, self-research, and creative methods; and compassion and humanism; creating a high-quality workforce for the social sciences and humanities, meeting the requirements of national integration and development.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai - Vice Director of Hanoi National University, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, the Principal of the Specialized High School for Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu, congratulated the students on successfully passing the challenging entrance exam to officially become students of the Specialized High School for Social Sciences and Humanities. He affirmed that passing the entrance exam to the Specialized High School for Social Sciences and Humanities is certainly a source of pride for the students, a source of pride for their families, and also the beginning of their aspirations, a new horizon, a new life, a new way of learning: creative and humane, adaptable and compassionate, independent and self-determined. “Thank you all for trusting and choosing this school – a place that will leave a lasting mark on your future, where you will experience the most beautiful years of your student life, where you will cultivate your character, hone your talents, and begin to orient yourselves towards the most suitable career goals for the future.”

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu - Principal of the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, delivered a speech.
Professor Pham Quang Minh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, sent a message of faith and hope for the future to the students of the Specialized School of Social Sciences and Humanities. Many parents and students have expressed their support. After much deliberation and consideration, I decided to choose the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities as my place of study, training, and to entrust my aspirations and dreams for my future career and life. This entrustment is based on strong faith in the school, with its 75-year history and tradition, its extensive domestic and international partnerships, and its recognized quality of education and brand. “Building trust together is the best way for us to transform this school into a school of faith and hope. Even though the coming years will be the most challenging for the family, the school, and the students, to continue, there is no other way than to strengthen measures to build trust: we must listen attentively to what others share, be honest, transparent, accountable, and demonstrate our capabilities to society.”

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai - Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi - affirmed that the establishment of the Specialized High School for Social Sciences and Humanities marks a milestone in completing the training structure for social sciences and humanities at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Over the past year, the establishment of the Specialized High School has attracted significant public and social attention. In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is making the world flatter, more similar, and bringing people closer together, cultural and social values – the research and reflection aspects of the social sciences and humanities – are the elements that create the unique value of each nation and people.

The leaders of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) expressed their expectation that the leaders and teachers of the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities will always prioritize quality assurance, from providing a complete system of modern, integrated learning materials to regularly innovating teaching methods according to international standards. The school has identified a strategy to support students in improving their foreign language skills, developing soft skills, and fostering independent thinking and integration into global citizens. VNU is committed to continuing to invest more heavily in the system of specialized high schools, especially the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities.

Student Ngo Ha Linh, a 10th-grade student specializing in Literature, speaking on behalf of the students of the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, expressed her feelings: "Our love for the social sciences and humanities, and our admiration for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, have motivated us to constantly strive and study hard to become members of this great family. Stepping into the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities is like boarding a flight that brings us closer to our dreams. I would like to thank the teachers for giving us the opportunity to be the first students of the school. The honor of being pioneers is not something everyone gets. We will inherit and continue the school's traditions, writing a new chapter in its history with the most beautiful words."

At the opening ceremony, the school awarded certificates of merit to the top five students: Tran Phuong Linh (Literature major), Do Anh Thu (History major), Nguyen Thi Minh Hanh (Geography major), Pham Yen Nhi (High-quality program 1), and Nguyen Thai Duong (High-quality program 2).
