Emotional and proud: Opening ceremony of High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities

The 2020-2021 school year has a special significance for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as 75 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree to establish the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the predecessor of the University; and also a quarter of a century of building and developing the University as a member of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. This year, the University welcomed the first batch of students from the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities - the newest members of the Humanities family, marking the expansion of the University's training levels/systems.

On October 9, 2019, the Hanoi People's Committee signed a decision to establish the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities is a public educational and training institution in the national education system and in the system of high schools in Hanoi. The school aims to develop into a high-quality educational institution, approaching regional and international levels. The goal of the school is to contribute to discovering and training students with outstanding abilities and talents in the fields of social sciences and humanities into people with a solid knowledge foundation; have self-study, self-research and creativity methods; have compassion and humanity; create high-quality human resources for the fields of social sciences and humanities, meeting the requirements of integration and development of the country.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai - Vice President of VNU affirmed that the establishment of the Specialized School of Social Sciences and Humanities is a milestone in completing the training structure of Social Sciences and Humanities of VNU. In nearly a year, the establishment of the Specialized High School has attracted great attention from the public and society. In the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution making the world flatter, more similar, bringing people closer together, the cultural and social values ​​- the research and reflection angles of the field of Social Sciences and Humanities - are the factors that create the unique values ​​of each country and nation.

The leaders of VNU expressed their expectation that the leaders and teachers of the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities will always promote quality assurance, from fully providing modern and integrated learning materials to regularly innovating teaching methods according to international standards. The school has identified a strategy to support students in improving their foreign language skills, developing soft skills, and fostering independent thinking and integration of global citizens.
