Friday - October 2, 2020 06:35
On October 2, 2020, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a meeting to review online training and develop an online training plan according to the regulations of VNU. Attending the meeting were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University) and representatives of functional departments, the Center for Training Quality Assurance; representatives of training units.

The purpose of the meeting is to review and evaluate the results of online teaching and learning at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the past time, to find out the strengths and weaknesses, and draw lessons for the future. The meeting also discussed and contributed opinions on the implementation of Decision No. 2598/QD-VNU on the organization and management of online training at VNU.

At the meeting, delegates listened to Mr. Dao Minh Quan (Deputy Director of the Center for Training and IT Application) briefly present the situation of online training implementation of the School in the recent past. Statistical data for the first semester of the 2020 school year: the number of online teaching and learning classes was 535, the number of registrations was 23,582, the number of online students was over 6,000, the total number of lecturers participating in online teaching was 280. During the peak of the Covid-19 epidemic, over 90% of the School's undergraduate and postgraduate subjects were taught online through the UPM platform. The quick and timely implementation of online teaching has helped the School ensure the progress of teaching and learning in difficult times.

MSc. Dao Minh Quan presented a report at the meeting.

MSc. Dao Minh Quan pointed out the advantages in implementing online teaching: timely direction from the Ministry of Education and Training and VNU; enthusiasm, initiative, consensus and support from staff and lecturers; good online teaching platform; strong direction from the school's leaders. Besides, there are also difficulties such as: short and urgent time that many lecturers have not had time to adapt; IT systems and software have not been prepared for large-scale training; digital learning materials systems are still limited; equipment and facilities for students are still lacking.

To overcome these difficulties, in the coming time, the University will implement a number of solutions: continue to enhance the technology of teaching and learning activities, consider the specific factors of the training field to build a roadmap and appropriate proportion; focus on training and fostering the teaching staff on online training methods; increase training and guidance on online learning methods for students; build a team of specialized staff to support lecturers and students. To implement the new regulations of VNU, the University sets out the following policies: restructuring the curriculum in the direction of ensuring that a maximum of 20% of the program's credits are delivered online; allocating teaching methods in the direction of combining in-class and online teaching (blended learning); issuing policies to support the development of electronic lectures, teaching costs for main lecturers and teaching assistants.

Dr. Cam Anh Tuan (Faculty of Archival Science and Office Administration) gave his comments.

During the discussion, the delegates all agreed and acknowledged the importance of online teaching not only during the period affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, but also as an effective supplement to traditional teaching. Online teaching can help relieve the burden on traditional lecture halls; facilitate the movement and arrangement of time for lecturers and students; help promote creativity in teaching thanks to online features... On the other hand, the delegates also commented on a number of issues such as: the school's online infrastructure and equipment are still limited, the interaction between lecturers and students is not high; the coordination and direction of the faculty leaders with lecturers are not tight; the mechanism for building evidence of online teaching has not been given due attention...

Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan delivered a speech directing the meeting.

Concluding the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University) reaffirmed the inevitable trend of applying online teaching as part of the roadmap for Digital Transformation of training activities that VNU has set out. The Vice Rector highly appreciated the contributions and statements and hoped that teachers would continue to promote the spirit of sharing and coordination to effectively implement online teaching even in the post-Covid period. The University will soon develop documents and policies on online teaching based on the new regulations of VNU to facilitate teachers' implementation.
