Speaking at the ceremony, representatives from various units affirmed the significance, scientific value, and practical importance of the First National Historical Conference with the theme: "Research on national territorial sovereignty based on a holistic and comprehensive approach to Vietnamese history." Exactly 10 years ago, in April 2014 in Ho Chi Minh City, Professor and People's Teacher Phan Huy Le – Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, launched a nationwide campaign to promote research on Vietnam's national territorial and maritime sovereignty. The First National Historical Conference was organized to gather and summarize research achievements on national territorial sovereignty based on a holistic and comprehensive approach to Vietnamese history from 2014 to the present, serving strategies for national construction and defense in the new historical context.
This is the first National Historical Conference ever held, and from 2024 onwards, it will be held approximately every five years, rotating among major historical training and research institutions across the country, on different topics to meet the demands of science and social practice.
Following open discussions, the delegates reached a consensus on the content, time, location, and format of the conference, specifically:
1 - Conference agenda:
- Summarizing research findings on the process of establishing, affirming, and protecting national territorial sovereignty by communities within Vietnam throughout Vietnamese history.
- To introduce new topics, new sources of information, and new approaches in research on national territorial sovereignty, serving the overall and comprehensive research orientation of Vietnamese history.
- Exchange and discuss to propose solutions to further promote research on national sovereignty and territory, especially maritime and island sovereignty, contributing to the struggle to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.
2 - Time: Scheduled to be held on June 15, 2024 (Saturday).
3 - Location:
The conference will be held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 336 Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi.
4 - Form of organization:
The conference will be held in person at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, consisting of three sessions: the Opening Session, the Discussion Session, and the Closing Session. The conference is expected to attract approximately 250 scientists from universities and research institutes nationwide, presenting 150 papers. Following the conference, the scientific papers will be revised, edited, and finalized for publication.
At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives from the participating units and sponsors signed an agreement to serve as the basis for coordinating and successfully organizing the conference.
