The workshop was chaired by Prof. Dr. Do Quang Hung, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, and Dr. Tran Ba Dung.

Also attending the seminar were Mr. Ho Quang Loi, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, representatives from the Propaganda Department (Ministry of National Defense), the Press Department ( Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the Press Department (Ministry of Information and Communications), and leaders from many central and Hanoi-based press agencies…

The transition from oral communication systems to mass media systems is one of the important conditions and characteristics of the transition from traditional to modern society. A new social institution emerges, playing a crucial role not only in disseminating information and knowledge to the people, but also profoundly and powerfully impacting all other social institutions, from politics and economics to culture and family. With the advent of print newspapers, then radio, television, and especially the Internet, mass media have experienced strong development, laying the groundwork for the development of the information society in the knowledge economy of the 21st century.

Veteran journalist Phan Quang, former Director General of the Voice of Vietnam, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee.

Vietnamese journalism emerged almost simultaneously with the establishment of the French colonial regime in our country. Although it came into existence hundreds of years later than the journalism of European countries, the history of Vietnamese journalism is rich, possessing distinct characteristics and a development closely linked to the changes in the nation's history during the modern and contemporary periods. Simultaneously, it reflects the history of culture, language, literature, printing, information technology, and more in Vietnam.

Journalist Ha Minh Hue, former Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, delivered a speech.

The media figures proposed for inclusion in the National Chronicle include President Ho Chi Minh, the founder of Vietnam's revolutionary press; journalists, leaders, and media managers who played a crucial role and had a significant influence in the field of mass media; those who planned, formulated strategies, and directly used the press as a weapon to organize forces to fight against invading enemies, protect and build the Fatherland, such as Comrade Truong Chinh (pen name Song Hong), Vo Nguyen Giap (pen names Van Dinh, Hong Thac); exemplary journalist martyrs; journalists who founded major media organizations in Vietnam; and journalists whose articles/series of articles marked milestones in the history of the country's press, such as Hai Trieu, Phan Van Truong, Tran Huy Lieu, Huynh Van Tieng, Duong Tu Giang, Hoang Tung, Tran Lam, Dao Tung, Tran Cong Man, Hong Ha, Tran Bach Dang, Quang Dam, Nguyen Thanh Le, NVL, etc.

Journalist Phan Khac Hai, former Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information, and Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

At the same time, many opinions were discussed and suggestions were made to include prominent figures representing the stages of development of Vietnamese journalism from its beginnings to the modern era in the volume on Communication, such as journalist Truong Vinh Ky, the founder of the first Vietnamese-language newspaper in Vietnam, Gia Dinh Bao; Nguyen Tuong Tam, pen name Nhat Linh; Nguyen Tuong Long, pen names Hoang Dao, Tu Ly; Nguyen Tuong Lan, pen name Thach Lam; Tran Khanh Giu, pen names Khai Hung, Nhi Linh; Ho Trong Hieu, pen name Tu Mo; Nguyen Thu Le, pen names The Lu, Le Ta (1907-1989) in newspapers.Culture - Today, or Vu Dinh Long with Tan Dan Printing House, the editor and manager of the newspaperSaturday Novel (1934)...

In addition, there is a suggestion to include in the category of Media Figures those who, although not directly involved in journalism, serve as spokespersons for the Party and State, playing a crucial role in shaping and guiding public opinion both domestically and internationally, supporting Vietnam during the two wars of resistance as well as in protecting and building the country afterward… such as Xuan Thuy, Nguyen Co Thach…

The drafting committee has incorporated feedback from journalists and scientists, and will continue to refine the principles, selection criteria, and the list of Media Figures for further review. This will involve seeking input from the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association, major media outlets such as VNA, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, Nhan Dan Newspaper, Communist Magazine, etc., as well as veteran journalists, before officially compiling the section on these figures.

Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Head of the project "Research and development of the National Geographic Encyclopedia: Media Volume" and veteran journalist Phan Quang
