Professor Tran Quoc Vuong (1934-2005) was the youngest son in a family of "late season" Confucian intellectuals, originally from Duy Tien, Ha Nam, but he was born and raised in Kinh Mon, Hai Duong. Inheriting the family's knowledge and studying in the French school system, the son of Chau River - Doi Mountain - Tran family soon revealed his intelligence and outstanding qualities. Becoming a first-class student of Hanoi University, he was fortunate to study with famous and erudite teachers such as Professors: Dao Duy Anh, Tran Van Giau, Tran Duc Thao, Cao Xuan Huy, Dang Thai Mai, Nguyen Manh Tuong... In 1956, after graduating, Tran Quoc Vuong was retained as an assistant trainee for Professor Dao Duy Anh at the Department of Ancient Vietnamese History. He devoted his entire life to the training and research career of the Faculty of History, Hanoi University of Science (now the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU).

Professor Tran Quoc Vuong is the one who has contributed to the opening and establishment of many new scientific fields and subjects. From 1980 to 1993, he was the Head of the Department of Archaeology and from 1989 to 2005, he was the Director of the Center for Intercultural-Historical Research. From 1993 to 1996, Professor Tran Quoc Vuong was the Head of the Department of Cultural Studies at the General University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. From 1998 until his death in 2005, the Professor was the Head of the Department of Cultural Studies and History of Vietnamese Culture.

Right from the beginning of his work at the Faculty of History, in addition to teaching and researching Vietnamese Ancient History, he soon focused on building the field of Archaeology. With the help of some colleagues, Professor Tran Quoc Vuong was the first lecturer on Archaeology for students of the Faculty of History, becoming the first Archaeologist of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Professor Tran Quoc Vuong, along with the founding generation of the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, has ignited and fanned the passion for learning and researching national history and culture for generations of students. Not only that, Professor Tran Quoc Vuong is also one of the scientists who have made many important contributions to researching, preserving and affirming the national cultural identity and the indomitable patriotic tradition of the Vietnamese people, which has been forged and tempered through thousands of years of struggle to build and defend the country. Before being awarded the title of Professor by the State in 1980, in the previous decades, he had been called Professor by the people with all respect and love, honored as one of the "four pillars" of the Faculty of History, and more broadly, the field of Vietnamese History and Culture. His name has become a legend and a source of pride for many generations of students.

Over the past 50 years, he has written more than 50 books, nearly 1,000 monographs, articles in hundreds of specialized magazines and many mass media. He has brought the lucky things he received from his Fatherland, his people, his teachers, the history and culture of the nation and of the whole era to multiply and pass on to generations of students as well as those who are passionate about and love the History and Culture of Vietnam and the world.

The late Professor Tran Quoc Vuong was honored as one of the "four pillars" of the Faculty of History. His name became a legend and the pride of many generations of students.

Many of his works and textbooks and those of scientists of the same generation have laid the initial and essential foundation for research, teaching and learning of students of the Faculty of History and many faculties and schools in VNU as well as universities, research and training institutions across the country. The research works of Professor Tran Quoc Vuong not only have the value of deeply summarizing achievements and academic viewpoints, updating new scientific information domestically and internationally, but also suggesting to future generations of researchers extremely valuable scientific orientations and ideas.

He is the one who directly trained and guided hundreds of students, dozens of graduate students and researchers. Many people who studied with him or were influenced by his academic views have now become famous, and are holding important positions in management agencies, universities and research institutes across the country. He is a teacher, a peer, a classmate, a colleague and a friend of many people who study, love and understand Vietnamese history and culture domestically and internationally.

And he himself, through his creative and unique scientific work, has glorified the historical and cultural characteristics of the rural areas where he lived and worked.

As a famous scientist in the country and internationally, in his scientific career, the Professor has participated in and chaired many national and international scientific conferences in Russia, the US, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, etc. Prof. Tran Quoc Vuong is the one who has contributed to building and establishing many international cooperative relationships for the fields of Archaeology and Cultural Studies. It can be said that there is no international scientist interested in and researching Vietnamese history and culture who does not know his name and have consulted and researched his works. Prof. Tran Quoc Vuong is the one who has made important contributions to gradually integrating the fields of History, Archaeology, Cultural Studies, etc. into the regional and international academic environment, helping the world understand more about the historical traditions and typical characteristics of Vietnamese culture.

He became himself - Professor Tran Quoc Vuong.
