Professor Vu Duong Ninh was born in 1937 into a family of urban civil servants and intellectuals. After the establishment of Hanoi University in 1956, Professor Vu Duong Ninh was a student in the first cohort, a classmate of renowned educators and historians such as Professor Phan Dai Doan, Associate Professor Le Mau Han, Associate Professor Nguyen Thua Hy, and Associate Professor Pham Thi Tam... Although he had a fondness for and aptitude for natural sciences, as if by fate, he studied history, loved history, taught and researched history, and achieved fame in the field of historiography.

After graduating from university, along with several classmates, Professor Vu Duong Ninh stayed to work at the History Department of Hanoi University. During the fierce war, the History Department and the University had to evacuate to many places. Learning conditions, reference materials, and living conditions were all scarce, but Professor Ninh and the members of the Department and Faculty still nurtured a great determination to learn foreign languages, mainly through self-study, so that they could use materials in French, Russian, and English. Amidst the smoke and fire of war, from bamboo tables under the dim light of oil lamps, under thatched huts, and with the support and protection of the people in the evacuation areas..., parts of the book...World History textbookIt was compiled and applied in teaching students. Working and studying simultaneously, teaching and accumulating experience, through difficult practical experiences, the teacher and his colleagues gradually matured and became core figures in building several academic departments of the school as well as many universities in the South after the country's reunification.

Since those arduous years, Professor Vu Duong Ninh has remained dedicated to researching world history in general and modern and contemporary world history in particular. For many years, as Head of the Department of World History and Vice-Head of the Faculty of History, Professor Vu Duong Ninh contributed his scientific enthusiasm to training many generations of students specializing in world history and international relations. In 1995, from a department within the Faculty of History, in response to the new development needs of the country, Professor Vu Duong Ninh was one of the initiators and founders of the International Studies department. Today, this department has become the Faculty of International Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, increasingly asserting its position as a center for training and research in international relations in Vietnam.

Thanks to his prestige and scientific vision, Professor Vu Duong Ninh was entrusted by the Ministry of Education and Training to lead the development of undergraduate and postgraduate training programs in the following subjects:World history,History of international relations,History of world civilization...For common use across universities nationwide. The professor himself also edited the textbooks:Modern world history,History of world civilization,History of International Relations - Volume I,A number of specialized books on World History (to date, 3 volumes have been published)...As someone who contributed to the opening of many new programs and academic disciplines, but always connected to practical activities, the topics that Professor Vu Duong Ninh teaches are always highly engaging. As a seasoned educator and pedagogue at Hanoi University and in the field of higher education, in the early 1980s, Professor Vu Duong Ninh was sent by the State to work as an education expert in Madagascar. Following his successful lecturing trip, in the context of Vietnam's opening up and the Doi Moi (Renovation) process, with his integrated knowledge and experience, Professor Vu Duong Ninh was invited to participate in numerous international conferences and collaborative research and teaching programs in France, the Netherlands, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, and other countries. His refined scientific viewpoints, easily understandable presentation style, and approachable demeanor earned him the trust and admiration of many international scholars.

Professor Vu Duong Ninh, a People's Teacher, is one of the scientists who initiated and established the International Studies department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

In addition to his responsibilities as an educator, Professor Vu Duong Ninh also devotes much of his energy to scientific research. The study of international relations, particularly determining Vietnam's position amidst profound global changes, has become a fascinating research topic for him. According to the Professor, serious scientific works on the world contribute to clarifying many issues in the nation's history, thereby allowing for the drawing of valuable conclusions and experiences, ultimately leading to the selection of appropriate solutions and policies. Understanding oneself, understanding the world, and grasping the correct trends and developments of the world are core factors in formulating national development policies and international integration.

Through his intellect and tireless work, Professor Vu Duong Ninh has set an example for his students and colleagues of responsibility and seriousness in his work. Over the years, in addition to being the chief editor of basic textbooks, Professor Vu Duong Ninh has also been primarily responsible for compiling five research books on the subject.Modern world history,Modern history of international relations,History of world civilization, Reform movements in some East Asian countries in the mid-19th to early 20th centuries, Vietnam-China land border.and is the author of a comprehensive monograph.History of Vietnam's foreign relations (1940-2010), the Vietnamese Revolution on the international stage: History and issues.Professor Vu Duong Ninh has also chaired numerous ministerial and national university-level scientific projects on Vietnam-ASEAN relations and Vietnam's foreign relations. To date, Professor Vu Duong Ninh has completed and published over 150 research papers in specialized journals. These research results not only contribute to clarifying many events and issues in world history but also focus on analyzing the international context and its impact on important events in the history of the Vietnamese revolution. These research findings contribute to preparing scientific arguments for reference by several research and policy-making institutions.

With his prestige and scientific influence, Professor Vu Duong Ninh has served as chairman and member of numerous councils for evaluating scientific works, councils for developing research programs and orientations of several scientific institutions, the Council for Professor Titles in History - Archaeology - Ethnology, and the Vietnam Historical Science Association... In each task, the Professor always demanded rigorous scientific quality, while simultaneously demonstrating an optimistic, humane perspective and a rich practical mindset. His teaching style and diverse scientific activities have contributed to the prestige and honor of the former Hanoi University of Technology and the current University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Humility, simplicity, honesty in thought, and unwavering commitment to his own scientific beliefs have become core factors contributing to his success and establishing him as one of the leading experts in modern Vietnamese historical science. Through his intellect and scientific work, his sincere affection and unwavering loyalty to friends and colleagues, and alongside educators in the field such as Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Gia Phu, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Hong, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Quoc Hung, Assoc.
