In June 1956, Hanoi University was established during a period when the country was divided by war. The university became a cradle for training and research in fundamental sciences, making significant contributions to the training of personnel and scientific research serving the cause of national liberation, national construction, and reunification.
Established in 1995, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities became a key member of the multidisciplinary structure of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Since then, the University has consistently maintained its leading position in research and training in social sciences and humanities nationwide, with a pioneering mission to create and disseminate knowledge, innovate the Vietnamese education system, and strive to become an academic center of regional and international stature.
Over those 70 years, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has proudly accompanied and left brilliant marks on the history of the nation's science and education. This rich tradition and brilliant record are the result of the hard work, intellect, dedication, and even the losses and sacrifices of countless generations of staff, teachers, and scientists. From the first generations with the names of great intellectuals and talented scientists such as Professors: Tran Duc Thao, Dao Duy Anh, Dang Thai Mai, Nguyen Manh Tuong, Cao Xuan Huy, Tran Van Giau, Hoang Xuan Nhi,... to leading scientists who laid the foundation for the social sciences and humanities of the University and the whole country such as Professors: Nguyen Tai Can, Tran Dinh Huou, Dinh Gia Khanh, Dinh Xuan Lam, Phan Huy Le, Ha Van Tan, Tran Quoc Vuong, Phan Cu De, Ha Minh Duc... The history of the national liberation struggle will never forget the sacrifices and bloodshed of thousands of cadres and students of the University on the fierce battlefields, among whom prominent names include Le Anh Xuan, Chu Cam Phong...
Ten Ho Chi Minh Prizes and thirteen State Prizes for science and technology; thousands of scientific works, including classic research papers that laid the foundation for social sciences and humanities; training thousands of undergraduate and postgraduate students, contributing high-quality, highly skilled human resources to the country, including many famous scientists, educators, and managers... - these are the outstanding contributions of the staff to the achievements of the University in particular and to the science and education of the country in general.
In October 2015, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will celebrate its 70th anniversary (1945-2015) and 20th anniversary (1995-2015). This is a very significant time to summarize the past development journey and to express gratitude to the generations of teachers and scientists who have dedicated their lives and passions to the development and growth of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Under the direction of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors, the Editorial Board of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities website has launched a special section.Portrait of a TeacherThe aim is to publish articles introducing outstanding educators and scientists of the University throughout its history. These articles will offer unique perspectives, with each author's observations, assessments, and emotions about each individual. More importantly, these articles will serve as a connecting thread, expressing respect and continuity of spirit between generations, inspiring the staff to live, work, and contribute even more to the development of the University and to the social sciences and humanities of the country.
This section eagerly awaits contributions and articles from a wide range of faculty, students, and trainees of the University to enrich the article system and contribute to building a complete information and documentation system about the faculty and scientists of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities over the past 70 years.
