Looking back at the first stage of university entrance exam using the Competency Assessment Method at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has made a positive contribution in organizing the first official university entrance exam.

In the first round of the competency assessment exam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was assigned by Hanoi National University to prepare facilities to serve the organization of the exam for 3,352 candidates, with 13 exam rooms (419 computers) in Hanoi and directly responsible for organizing the exam for 7,689 candidates, with 29 exam rooms (522 computers) at 02 examination clusters in Hai Phong and Nam Dinh from May 30, 2015 to June 2, 2015. Thus, the University directly organized the examination for nearly 17% of the total number of candidates taking the examination of the entire VNU, and if counting the number of candidates taking the examination at the University's examination site at 336 Nguyen Trai, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi, this rate is up to 25%. That number shows the trust of VNU in the organization and administration capacity of the examination and the sense of responsibility of the University's staff, and at the same time affirms the role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the enrollment work of VNU.

Although the pressure on organizing the first exam was quite large because from the organization method, implementation process, technical and technological means to professional requirements for exam supervisors... there were many new points and many differences compared to the way the entrance exam was organized in previous years. However, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has made many efforts to complete the tasks assigned by the leaders of VNU.

Under the general and unified direction of VNU and the Admissions Council of the University of Science and Humanities, the staff of the University, from the Cluster Leaders, Deputy Cluster Leaders, Heads of Points, Deputy Heads of Points to secretaries, supervisors, inspectors... have all demonstrated the highest sense of responsibility, always being proactive and creative in implementing work and promptly and effectively handling arising situations, contributing to the overall success of the units in VNU. The exam was organized safely, according to plan, creating a good image with candidates and the whole society.

In the process of performing tasks and deploying work, right from the time the Project on renewing the admission method of VNU was announced, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the University have focused on directing, constantly indoctrinating, and raising awareness of the staff and lecturers about the new requirements and tasks of the "Assessment of Competency" admission method. Therefore, when the exam started, all work was carried out with high determination, seriousness, and enthusiasm, welcoming the change. Nearly 640 exam supervisors in Nam Dinh province and Hai Phong city and 120 exam service staff at the University all completed their tasks well. That is proof of the positive and sustainable contribution of the University to one of the important factors ensuring the success of the exam -human factor. Along with preparing staff, the School has organized 4 online admissions consulting programs on the School's website, promptly, consistently and accurately answering nearly 1,000 questions from candidates. In addition, the Facebook page "Admissions Consulting of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities" has attracted more than 9,570 participants (including 115 people living abroad). There is information that has reached the community's reach of 13,300 times, reaching the number of interactions of nearly 2,900 people. That shows the level of influence of this information page on the community, contributing to strongly promoting communication work about the exam directly to candidates and society.

Along with the above results, it is impossible not to mention the silent contributions of experts, lecturers of the School and member schools of VNU in participating in building the question bank over the past 2 years. This is a particularly important task that not only requires effort and intelligence but also has to meet strict requirements in the process of building a question bank according to new requirements. In which, the requirements on goals, quality and security principles are put first. The results achieved in the recent exam show that the question bank system has met the requirements of the admission work well. The changes in the exam content were highly appreciated by candidates and many students focused on and chose the part.qualitative thinkingandsocial science. That shows that the requirements for innovation and assessment methods have had the strongest and most direct impact on the exam content. The exam content sections not only closely follow the high school program but also emphasize the use of application questions, open-ended questions that require candidates to use knowledge, synthesis skills and social knowledge to answer. The way of thinking of the exam set also aims to limit the mechanical memorization of data, events or answering according to available templates. Those changes require experts who make the exam to make great efforts, change the assessment methods so that the measurement and assessment of candidates' abilities can achieve the goal set by VNU, which is to recruit good candidates with independent and creative scientific thinking to study at member schools and faculties of VNU. Without enthusiasm for the education career, without a proactive spirit, creative ability, and active absorption of international experience, it is impossible to create those changes.

New expectations from admission results

Through the first round of the Competency Assessment Exam, it can be said that the recruitment source of the University of Science and Humanities is quite rich. The University of Science and Humanities has received 6,521 applications, of which 1,891 candidates have achieved the admission threshold for the training programs. Thus, along with the achieved scores, if the candidates graduate from high school or equivalent, they are eligible for admission. The school believes that, with the tradition and prestige of a leading university in the country specializing in training and research in Social Sciences and Humanities, through the Competency Assessment Exam, the school will successfully complete the recruitment and training tasks assigned by VNU.

It is also worth mentioning that, in the recent exam, the number of candidates who achieved the admission threshold score was quite high quality. The whole school had 6,521 applications for the first choice, of which 1,892 candidates achieved the admission threshold score for the training programs with an average score of 92.1. The number of candidates with a score of 90 or higher accounted for 57.3%, among the candidates with less than 90 points (accounting for 46.7%), there were only 1.6% of candidates.score from 78 to nearly 80 points, the rest achieved from 80 to nearly 90 points. With this result, it can be seen that the input quality of the majors is an important factor in ensuring the quality of training in the future. Compared to previous exams, although the exam format and scoring scale are different, when converted to the score distribution ratio, the recent National High School Graduation Exam has achieved a fairly high level and tends to be higher in many majors.

Through the organization of the exam and the implementation of the admission plan, it can also be affirmed that, in the general orientation and direction of VNU, the University has made a relatively accurate assessment of the social impact, the strengths of the training majors as well as the training needs and attractiveness of the training majors through the identification of groups of majors with different threshold scores for receiving registration documents. This is valuable experience in implementing the admission and admission work according to the new method. The way of implementing that work, with the number of registration documents and information updated daily, the quota of each major is clearly defined, publicly announced, the way of receiving documents is enthusiastic and thoughtful... all have created a positive effect and received high attention and consensus from society.
