Political and ideological education - key activities

Implementing the direction of the Party Committee, the School Youth Union continues to focus on implementing political and ideological education, ethics and lifestyle for union members and students. With the motto of determining this as the top priority, political and ideological education, ethics and lifestyle become the basis for implementing other tasks. In order to effectively implement one of the two breakthroughs of the City Youth Union for the 2012-2017 term, which is "Improving the quality of union activities", the School Youth Union has focused on directing, developing content and organizing union activities with contents such as: "Youth with the Constitution", "Building the style of union cadres in the new period". Continuing to maintain its strengths in activities to respond to the campaign "Vietnamese Youth Study and Follow Uncle Ho's Teachings", the School Youth Union organized the third school-level "Understanding Ho Chi Minh's Thought" contest in 2012 and the fourth in 2013. From the success of the grassroots-level contest, the School Youth Union was entrusted to host the "Understanding Ho Chi Minh's Thought" contest with the coordination between the VNU Youth Union and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association.

Creativity in professional support activities

In addition, the School Youth Union always maintains good consulting activities - supporting union members and students in studying, scientific research, and skill development; especially focusing on improving the capacity, qualities and promoting the role of young staff and lecturers. The School Youth Union has organized consulting and career guidance activities, and at the same time created conditions for union members and students to meet businesses to learn about the actual working environment, exchange with employers, such as organizing a talk show "Skills of young human resources in the business environment"; directing units to organize "Career orientation" talks, "Career guidance for students" talks. In the last term, the School Youth Union consulted with the School Board to put into operation 02 free Internet rooms with nearly 80 computers connected to the network, attracting hundreds of visits every day, supporting students to look up, search, exploit and use information for study and scientific research, while creating favorable conditions for students to register for subjects and learn soft skills online. At the same time, in the last term, the English Club under the School Youth Union was established to create a good environment for students to study, research and communicate, improving their English proficiency. Professional activities of young staff in the units also took place actively, with many rich contents, such as sending reports to participate in domestic and international scientific conferences (LCD of the Faculty of Linguistics); exchange and discuss topics related to knowledge and expertise (LCD of Tourism Faculty, Youth Union of the Headquarters), etc. In addition, the School Youth Union continues to maintain a scholarship fund to encourage union members and students to participate in scientific research, awarding them to topics related to the Youth Union and Association and contributing to the development of the School Youth Union and Student Association.

Cultural - sports - artistic activities: affirming individual identity

During the term, the School Youth Union has always promoted the tradition and strengths of union members and students in cultural - artistic - sports activities, continuing to maintain and improve the quality of social and volunteer activities. Annual activities have been maintained to attract a large number of union members and students, such as the Gala "New Student Talents", "Festival of Clubs/Teams/Groups", etc. The most prominent are the Elegant Student Contest "USSH Gralent 2013" with the first participation of male students and the Male Student Football Tournament "USSH Champions League 2013". In social and charity activities, the Youth Union in collaboration with the School Student Association has organized many meaningful activities. The school's Youth Union pays special attention to developing volunteer teams related to expertise, such as the Student Social Work Team, the Enactus Team, the Thang Long - Hanoi Cultural and Historical Propaganda Team, etc. These can be on-site volunteer activities with practical meaning such as "Removing tape from lecture halls" or volunteer trips to remote areas or supporting Social Protection Centers, such as "Warm Winter Ha Giang", "Square Tet"... There are annual activities that have become the "brands" of the Youth Union branches, such as: "Open Drama Night of the Faculty of Literature" (LCD of the Faculty of Literature), "Gala to celebrate World Tourism Day" (LCD of the Faculty of Tourism Studies), etc.

With the core political role, the School Youth Union has directed and coordinated activities with the Student Union organization in the direction of enhancing activities with the color of Humanistic students. Along with maintaining good annual cultural - sports - artistic activities, the School Student Union has participated and achieved high results in competitions outside the school, contributing to promoting the image and affirming the talents of union members and students, such as: "Literature - Sports - Art Student" competition (Cheerleading champion and crowned Miss U-league North), dormitory tour program "Journey of Student Song" (top 10 national finalists)...

Be proactive in staff training

In the work of training cadres, the School Youth Union always maintains the annual "Training Conference for Youth Union - Association Cadres" as well as sends cadres to attend training courses of the higher-level Youth Union to learn and promptly make appropriate adjustments to the content of the work. In addition, the School Youth Union has established inspection teams and conducted inspections and reviews of the activities of all affiliated units; built and completed new forms, provided detailed instructions to units, and regularly monitored and inspected the implementation of annual Youth Union work. In particular, the initiative in Party development work has brought about clear results when the work of orientation, training, fostering and introducing outstanding Youth Union members for Party admission all exceeded the set targets.

Expanding cooperation activities

In the trend of national integration, the School Youth Union has built many coordinated activities to strengthen the connection between the School's youth activities with other units inside and outside VNU, as well as with agencies, departments, unions, organizations and businesses outside. The motto of these activities is to both demonstrate the responsibility of the youth, promote professional strengths, mobilize comprehensive resources to serve the work of the Youth Union and initially promote the image of the youth and the School in the community and society. Typical examples include: the exchange program “Breaking gender stereotypes about careers; “Club Festival” and the program “Artistic Exchange” aiming to celebrate the anniversary of the Government’s Decree on VNU… The School Youth Union has established and maintained relationships with businesses to build connections between students and professional employment environments, while mobilizing practical support resources for student activities, such as: HONDA Vietnam, Mobifone, New Focus Uniform, Bolton English Center, etc.

The results achieved in the past term continue to mark the maturity and steadfastness of the Youth Union and the youth movement of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, meeting the new needs and demands of society and the young generation. With the results achieved in the past term, in December 2013, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.

With action slogan“Humanistic Youth: Pure Heart - Bright Mind - Courage - Diligence - Integration”, in the 2014 - 2017 term, the School Youth Union Executive Committee continued to affirm the important position of the Youth Union in the political system of the School. Promoting tradition, affirming the leading role in the VNU Youth Union movement, the School Youth Union gradually promoted the social science expertise of the School's youth in the Youth Union work and youth movements, building a strong Youth Union organization, meeting the needs of union members and students, actively contributing to the development of the School.

The 8th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, term 2014 - 2017, is about to be held with the participation of 200 delegates, representing nearly 6,000 union members of the school. So 7 Congresses - 18 years of building and developing the school's Youth Union have passed. To move forward, there are still many opportunities as well as many challenges waiting ahead. Hopefully, with "pure heart - bright mind - courage - initiative - integration", the union members and students will continue to build the Union work and youth movement worthy of the tradition of the school and will always be the leading flag in the VNU Youth Union movement, the city Youth Union movement and more.
