In 1968, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language was established under the name Faculty of Vietnamese Language at Hanoi University. The Faculty was the first and only training institution entrusted with the national task of teaching Vietnamese to foreign students under agreements between the Vietnamese government and other countries. In 1995, the Faculty changed its name to the Faculty of Vietnamese Language for Foreigners. In 2008, it changed its name again to the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, tasked with training Bachelor of Vietnamese Studies graduates for both Vietnamese and foreign students. Many of the Faculty's graduates have become outstanding diplomats and Vietnamese studies scholars, including 15 who have become Ambassadors of various countries to Vietnam.
