Sharing her feelings when she learned that she became the valedictorian of the D1 block of the school, Hai Yen said she was quite surprised because at first she only set the goal of passing the entrance exam to her favorite major.
“I have dreamed of entering the Faculty of Oriental Studies for a long time and that is the motivation for my study process. The benchmark score in 2017 of the Faculty of Oriental Studies was 28.5 and this is really a very high threshold. Perhaps thanks to a bit of luck, I was finally admitted to my favorite major. I also want to pass this exam to deny the prejudice that students in the national excellent student team will study lopsidedly. People think that students in specialized classes usually only know how to study that specialized subject” - Yen said.

Yen revealed that her results were due to her dedication and concentration in studying. The female valedictorian combined both in-class and extra classes, along with practicing test questions and dividing her time reasonably. Besides, in addition to the difficulties and pressures that every student faces, Yen also had another obstacle: time.
Yen confided: “In grade 12, I participated in the national excellent student exam in Literature. After the exam ended, I only had about 5 months left to review knowledge for the national high school exam. Therefore, when I returned to class, at first I was shocked by the knowledge because I could not keep up with my classmates. But later, with the help of teachers and friends, everything gradually became more stable.”

When asked about the reason for leaving the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Yen replied: “First of all, it is because of my love for social sciences, especially geography, history and culture of Eastern countries. In addition, following the advice of teachers and seniors, I found that the Humanities environment has many characteristics suitable for me, so I chose to study here.”

Hai Yen also participated in many activities at high school such as being a member of the Thai Binh Radio Club. “I want to continue working in the media. I plan to apply to the USSH media club. In the first year, my first goal is to achieve a score that allows me to enter the Chinese Studies major,” Yen said.
For candidates who will take the 2019 National High School Exam, Hai Yen advised: “Before the university entrance exam, besides trying to achieve the desired score, answering the question of what major you want to study is also not easy. Choosing the path you love that suits your abilities will be the motivation for you to stick with your choice and give it your all.”
