Chu Duc Liem is a student in the History Department, high-quality program, class of QH-2011-X. In 2008, while in 10th grade, Liem was unfortunately diagnosed with bone cancer and had to undergo surgery to amputate one leg. Despite his poor health and difficult family circumstances, Chu Duc Liem demonstrated an optimistic spirit, overcoming his illness to continue his studies, and successfully passed the entrance exam to the History Department of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2011. At the end of his first year, Liem achieved the title of Excellent Student with an average GPA of 3.27. He was awarded a certificate of merit by the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for his outstanding academic achievements despite facing difficulties. I received the Le Van Huu Scholarship from the Faculty of History and the Historical Development Fund Scholarship from the Vietnam Historical Science Association in 2012, and was honored as an Outstanding Young Person of the University in 2012. While undergoing treatment and studying simultaneously, my academic performance at the University remained excellent (my total credits completed to date are rated as Excellent with an average GPA of 3.55). In addition, Chu Duc Liem is an active member of the University's Hoa Da Club and diligently participates in charitable activities to bring smiles to child cancer patients in the local area and Hanoi.

At the end of 2012, Liem's cancer recurred, forcing him to temporarily suspend his studies for treatment. He returned to school in September 2013. However, he had to stop his studies again to return to the hospital for further treatment due to his worsening condition. To this day, despite his increasingly serious illness, Liem, with his strong will to live and remarkable optimism, has overcome even the worst prognosis given by the doctors to continue living and receiving the love and support of his family, teachers, and friends.

Chu Duc Liem is a shining example for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, demonstrating resilience and unwavering determination in the face of adversity, enabling him to pursue his studies and contribute to the community. Although he temporarily suspended his studies in 2013, the student community of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities still cherishes Chu Duc Liem as a particularly beloved member and eagerly awaits his return to the university to be with his teachers and friends.

To offer timely encouragement, support, and strength to Chu Duc Liem and his family during this difficult time, the University, the Faculty of History, the Youth Union, and the Student Association presented certificates of merit along with many gifts from the collective and individual teachers to him and his family. The visit by representatives of the University to Liem's family took place in a touching atmosphere. There were not only many words of encouragement and support, but also tears.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu shared:Liem is a student from a particularly difficult background, but she has persevered and achieved many excellent academic and personal accomplishments. She chose to become a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and to this day, we love her and are proud of what she has achieved."

Mr. Chu Van Nghi, Liem's father, emotionally shared:The family is at a loss for words, but we would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for the love and support that the teachers and the school have shown to Liem."

Chu Duc Liem also shared with his teachers and friends that he wished for good health to complete his studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the school that has helped him cultivate a deeper love for life. He is happy to receive the care and love of everyone.
