The valedictorian of the Literature Department, Class of 53, this year is Tran Dang Trung, with a GPA of 3.62. Trung's family includes a maternal grandfather, and both his father and mother are university lecturers. This family tradition and his love of literature motivated him to apply to the Literature Department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This also makes Trung feel fortunate to have the opportunity to dedicate himself fully to his studies. For Dang Trung, a solid foundation of knowledge is the most important thing, while skills are merely supplementary. He believes that working is similar to running a business. In business, capital is the most important factor; the amount of capital you have will determine what you can do. To run a successful business, you must first have ample capital. Just like in education, to excel at any job, you need a certain level of knowledge. The deeper and broader your knowledge, the better your job and position will be.As a student, Trung was all too familiar with the rushed, seasonal, and intensive study methods aimed at passing exams. He considered this the learning style of "those who run the 100m race":In essence, university education is a marathon, and you can't use the same methods you use for a 100-meter race to compete in a marathon. Learning, from the very beginning, must be systematic; you must clearly identify what you need to know and what you lack and need to improve. It should be slow and steady, but persistent and thorough."In order to study well at university, "You need a suitable learning method, which is to systematize and connect knowledge. No knowledge is useless. All knowledge has its own meaning, to a greater or lesser extent, and in different contexts. The learning method is always the most important, and only at university can you truly learn that." - Dang Trung shared.

I noticed the pride and excitement shining in Trung's eyes when he talked about his department and his teachers:For me, the Faculty of Literature at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities can be considered one of the best learning environments; from its long-standing tradition and rich history to its highly qualified and dedicated faculty in teaching and imparting knowledge. Studying here is a fun and wonderful experience for a student.Trung admitted that his love and pride in his learning environment contributed significantly to his motivation and dedication to each subject, leading to good results. When asked about his feelings regarding his recent university life, Trung readily said: “University is truly a gift. There are many gifts in life, but this is truly a precious one. The years spent studying at university are the best time to accumulate knowledge and essential skills for life; it's when you can freely pursue your passions without any constraints from the noisy, chaotic outside world; it's a challenging environment that hones willpower, character, and intelligence that will stay with you throughout your life.” Students, don't waste this wonderful gift that you're lucky enough to receive only once in a lifetime. You believe this is the time when you can wholeheartedly focus on studying, accumulating knowledge, freely pursuing your passions, and learning in a professional environment. There will be no more opportunities or time for you to study and accumulate knowledge as well as at university. From high school until now, Tran Dang Trung has set his sights on a career in teaching and research. Being accepted to stay at the University as a doctoral student has created a favorable stepping stone to this dream. Trung dreams of having the ability and resources to bring fascinating knowledge about literature and culture, often confined to the classroom, closer to the general public. I believe that, with his keen insight, accumulated knowledge, maturity, and depth of thought, Tran Dang Trung will succeed in his endeavors.
