Some of Chu Thi Phuong Anh's notable achievements.

The arduous journey of writing a thesis.
Sharing her thoughts on her graduation thesis with the Vietnamese Student section of Tien Phong newspaper, she said: “I am grateful and proud to have achieved the highest graduation thesis score in the Public Relations major: grateful for having met inspiring teachers, and proud that I have tried my best and not let down my teachers' trust.”
Phuong Anh's graduation thesis topic is "The image of Vietnam's national brand before and after arrival in the perception of international students." This research aims to understand the image of Vietnam in the perception of international students before and after studying here.

Lecturers in Public Relations have assessed this as a novel topic because it views Vietnam as a study destination rather than a tourist destination, unlike many previous studies.
Phuong Anh shared that she chose this topic because of her deep love for her homeland, Vietnam, and its people, as well as for the decent education and diverse cultural identity she has experienced at Hanoi National University.
"I believe that Vietnamese people in general, and Vietnamese teachers in particular, have professional expertise and teaching methods that are no less superior than those of other countries renowned for their education, such as Australia, the United States, or Canada. Therefore, I am determined to conduct research on this topic and strive my best to complete it to the highest standard," she explained.

The first challenge she faced was convincing her supervising lecturer. With her research field being "national branding," Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen – Deputy Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training – entrusted her to Dr. Luong Van Ha. He is an expert in national branding research and a lecturer at the IÉSEG School of Business Administration, Catholic University of Lille, France.
Previously, Professor Ha had never accepted an invitation to supervise a bachelor's thesis in Vietnam. Therefore, he requested that Phuong Anh submit her resume (CV) and clearly state the topics she intended to pursue.
Phuong Anh visited Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (BSRU) as part of the ASEAN+3 Youth Camp in Thailand, March 2023.
The second difficulty stemmed from the professor's demanding requirements. As a researcher, he required her to undertake a research project with high scientific content. The project combined qualitative and quantitative research methods, demanded a large sample size, and required data processing with many rigorous procedures.
As a student specializing in Literature, Phuong Anh struggled with the "Statistics for Social Sciences" course in her first year. However, she was forced to teach herself statistical software to process the large amount of data used as evidence for her research paper.
Finding international students for the survey was also a headache for her. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of international students in Vietnam at the time of the survey (late 2022) was not large. At times feeling too discouraged in her "hunting" for people, Phuong Anh took a gamble and messaged everyone with a foreign name she found on social media to invite them to participate in the survey.
In the end, she found about 170 international students who agreed to help. They came from various countries such as China, South Korea, Japan, Bulgaria, Ukraine, France, etc., and are currently studying at universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Phuong Anh's favorite life mottos are "Miracles will always happen when we don't give up, because the universe will always listen to resilient hearts" and "Where there is a will, there is a way." Therefore, she always maintains an open and receptive spirit, unafraid of difficulties and failures, and courageously learns through practical experience. This belief is what motivated the young woman to complete and reap the rewards of her university graduation thesis.
Gen Z is always afraid of stability and meaninglessness.
From a young age, Phuong Anh had a dream of working in the media field so she could travel far, connect with many people, and unleash her creativity. Therefore, she mapped out a specific study plan and set goals to complete each milestone on schedule.
Attending the specialized Literature class at Nguyen Trai High School (Hai Duong) helped her improve her vocabulary and writing skills. With an IELTS score of 7.0 in 11th grade, she was directly admitted to the Public Relations major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Right from her second year of university, Phuong Anh became an intern at CMC Technology Group. Not stopping there, she decided to enroll in a double major in English Language at the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Phuong Anh confided that she is not a "bookworm." It was the joy and excitement of acquiring new knowledge that attracted and motivated her to learn more. In addition, her second major greatly assisted her research, which requires access to vast resources written in English. It is also a tool for her to realize her dream of promoting the image of Vietnam to a wider audience.

Having started internships early gave her the opportunity to apply the theories she learned in school to practical work. For example, she immediately applied the knowledge from the Public Relations Writing Skills and Journalistic Language courses to writing communication articles and press releases for the company's events. Similarly, the Translation and Interpretation Skills course greatly helped her in reading documents about technology products and writing content in English.
Starting work early also allowed her to learn many new things, from seemingly small skills that are actually part of what makes her professional in her work: time management, planning, and publication design.
However, her internship also presented her with many challenges: accepting no weekends, or less time for rest and leisure. To balance her life and heal herself, she usually travels every six months with friends and family using the money she earns from her part-time job.
As a Gen Z who fears stability and meaninglessness, Phuong Anh would be deeply disappointed in herself if she remained stagnant day after day without making any progress or achieving anything new. During her student years, besides studying and working, she wholeheartedly participated in many extracurricular activities. The most memorable among them were the 2021 National MC Talent Search Competition and, most recently, her trip to Thailand as part of the ASEAN+3 Youth Camp 2023.
For the "Sound Color" competition, Phuong Anh was assigned the role of Head of Content, responsible for coordinating all aspects of the program. This was a position that demanded great creativity and responsibility. Organized during a period when the COVID-19 pandemic was unfolding in a complex manner, she and other members spent many sleepless nights thinking about how to adapt the competition format and content to suit the pandemic situation.
As for the trip to Thailand, Phuong Anh was impressed because it was her first time traveling abroad as a representative of her school on a cultural diplomacy trip. The trip helped her make many international friends, learn more about the cultures of ASEAN+3 countries, and have unforgettable experiences in the Land of the Golden Pagodas.
Currently, Phuong Anh manages the marketing activities for three branches of an English language center in Hanoi. Her main responsibilities include planning communication strategies and overseeing marketing activities to increase brand awareness. This job is an interesting combination of her Public Relations and English Language studies. Thanks to her formal training in English and communication, she quickly understands the core values of the brand and focuses on highlighting them.
According to Phuong Anh, her greatest blessing and source of pride is having chosen a major that she is truly passionate about, instead of struggling with a field she "randomly chose." Furthermore, Public Relations is a promising field because of the practical knowledge and skills it provides to its students.
She expressed her view that university will be an exciting learning experience if we choose a major that suits our abilities, interests, and the needs of society. Phuong Anh sent a message to young people: "Before deciding on a major, pause for a moment to listen to what your heart tells you: Who do you truly want to become in the future?"
