On December 29th, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a dialogue between the university's leadership and postgraduate students from various cohorts. Representatives from the Board of Directors, heads of functional departments, faculties, and departments attended the dialogue to listen to and answer students' questions. The dialogue session was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector of the University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Quyet - Head of the Postgraduate Training Department, and Dr. Pham Thi Thu Hoa - Deputy Head of the Postgraduate Training Department. The majority of student opinions concerned training, research, and tuition fees. Many students, especially those who enrolled in 2010, were unfamiliar with the training regulations, guidelines, curriculum, course outlines, study plans, and examination procedures for various reasons. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Quyet answered these questions specifically, guiding students to refer to the postgraduate training regulations, which are fully available on the university's website. This dialogue between the university leadership and postgraduate foreign language students addressed many of the students' concerns and anxieties. Questions were raised regarding the foreign language learning schedule for students in 2010. Some opinions suggested that the general English program, used for all majors and specializations, should be grouped into one class, which is not truly appropriate given the uneven levels of proficiency, learning needs, and foreign language usage. Therefore, foreign language learning remains superficial and ineffective, failing to motivate students and resulting in low quality. It was suggested that the university should develop separate foreign language programs for each specialization and offer separate classes, which would be more suitable. Responding to students' concerns about foreign language teaching and learning, Dr. Pham Thi Thu Hoa stated that foreign language instruction is currently handled by the University of Foreign Languages (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), therefore the class schedule will be standardized and announced to students in detail. Besides scientific research, which is one of the core activities, many students wish that the University should create conditions for them to produce genuine scientific reports and publish them in the university's scientific journal. They also hope that the University will publish information about scientific research topics and specialized studies by students and faculty so that students can access and refer to them for their own research. Vice Rector Nguyen Van Kim stated: The University always encourages and creates conditions for students and trainees to study and participate in scientific research, and high-quality scientific reports will be published. The Vice Rector hopes that students will actively and proactively participate in scientific research. Many direct questions regarding specific cases were raised by students during the dialogue session, such as: Do postgraduate students receive scholarships? Are final exam scores published online? Dr. Pham Thi Thu Hoa also stated: Postgraduate students receive many scholarships, and these scholarships mainly come from external funding sources, so if students meet the requirements, they can absolutely receive a scholarship. Regarding exam scores, since there is currently no dedicated software, it is not possible to publish students' exam scores online. In addition, students had many other questions about issues such as Party work, admissions, graduation, enrollment registration, thesis/dissertation registration procedures, etc. Most questions were clearly answered by representatives of the University leadership and functional departments. Concluding the dialogue session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim – representing the presiding committee – suggested that students should proactively research regulations and related documents. At the same time, the Vice Rector encouraged students to continue providing feedback and suggestions to the Board of Directors and departments so that the University's activities can be more effective and positive.
