International scientific conference: “Sustainable tourism development: Lessons learned for Southeast Asian countries”

On December 3rd and 4th, 2019, the Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with Bournemouth University (UK), and with funding from the TOURIST Project and the European Commission through the Erasmus+ Program, organized a workshop.“Sustainable tourism development: Lessons learned for South East Asian countries”(The Vietnamese name is "Sustainable tourism development: Lessons learned for Southeast Asian countries".

The workshop aims to create a forum for scholars and tourism researchers from Vietnam and abroad to exchange experiences, share knowledge, results, and research methods related to tourism activities in Southeast Asia in particular and countries around the world in general, redefine the position of regional tourism, and reassess the role of Vietnamese tourism in the region in the context of integration.

The conference was attended by approximately 60 scholars from various countries (including the UK, Austria, Spain, Finland, Italy, the USA, Japan, Belgium, South Korea, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.) with 3 leading world-renowned speakers in the field of tourism. On the Vietnamese side, the conference included representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the Institute for Tourism Development Research, the Board of Directors of the National University, representatives from tourism training institutions in Vietnam, and domestic tourism researchers.
