The training course on the topic "Choosing Left-Wing Theories in a Changing World" was organized by the Center for Policy Research and Analysis at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities from December 17th to 23rd, 2009.

The training course on the topic "Choosing Left-Wing Theories in a Changing World" was organized by the Center for Policy Research and Analysis at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities from December 17th to 23rd, 2009.

This is one of the activities of the project "Research on appropriate left-wing theories in the transition process in Vietnam" jointly implemented by the Rosa Luxemburg Institute, Federal Republic of Germany, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The target audience for the training course includes officials and lecturers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and experts in the fields of Philosophy and Policy working at the Institute of Science and Technology Strategy and Policy, the Institute of Philosophy, the Institute of Asian Studies, the Regional Political Academy I, the National Academy of Public Administration, the Academy of Journalism and Communication, etc.

The lecturers participating in the presentation included Professor Normal Levine (University of Maryland, USA) and Vietnamese experts such as Professor Hoang Chi Bao, Professor Pham Khiem Ich, and Professor Luu Dat Thuyet.

The training content includes:

  • The historical development of Marxist theory
  • Left-wing theory on the State in Socialism
  • Left-wing theory of market economy in Socialism
  • Left-wing theories on civil society in Socialism
  • Reforming socialism in Vietnam
  • Social democracy and the social democratic movement...

At this training course, in addition to gaining a better understanding of left-wing theories in European countries, the participants also had the opportunity to discuss and express their views on Marxism as well as issues related to building and developing a socialist-oriented market economy, building a rule of law state, and developing civil society in Vietnam.
