4. Bachelor's and master's degrees issued by foreign educational institutions:Candidates with a university or master's degree issued by a foreign educational institution must have a certificate of recognition from the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training at the time of online registration.
5. Standard training time:
- For doctoral training: 3 years for those with a master's degree; 4 years for those without a master's degree.
- For master's training: 2 years.
6. Foreign language requirements:
6.1. For doctoral candidates:
Candidates must have one of the following diplomas or certificates proving foreign language proficiency in accordance with the foreign language output standards of the training program approved by Hanoi National University:
- Have foreign language certificateReference table of foreign language certificates used in doctoral admissions at VNU(SEE HERE) by an internationally and Vietnamese recognized testing organization within 24 months from the date of the certification exam to the date of application;
- Bachelor's or Master's degree issued by a foreign educational institution for a full-time training program abroad in a language that is appropriate to the language required by the training program's output standards. Diplomas issued by foreign educational institutions must undergo recognition procedures according to current regulations.
- Have a university degree in foreign languages or foreign language pedagogy suitable for the foreign language according to the output standards of the training program, issued by Vietnamese training institutions.
- In the above cases, if English is not the language, the candidate must be able to communicate in English in a professional manner so that others can understand in English and understand others presenting professional issues in English. The Admissions Council establishes a subcommittee to evaluate the professional English communication ability of candidates in this category.
6.2. For master's candidates:
Candidates in one of the following cases are exempted from the Foreign Language exam:
- Have a university, master's or doctoral degree from a full-time training program abroad, and have the degree recognized by a competent authority according to current regulations;
- Have a university degree in an advanced program according to the Project of the Ministry of Education and Training on advanced training programs at some universities in Vietnam or a high-quality engineering degree (PFIEV) recognized by the engineering degree committee (CTI, France), with a foreign partner to jointly grant the degree or a university degree in an international standard training program, a talent training program, a high-quality training program of VNU;
- Have a university degree in foreign languages.
- Have a foreign language proficiency certificate equivalent to the levels of the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam: level 3 for VNU-Hanoi standard master's degree training programs, level 4 for international joint master's degree programs granted by VNU-Hanoi, level 5 for international standard master's degree training programs (see reference table)HEREThe certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of taking the foreign language certificate exam to the date of registration for the master's degree exam and is issued by an institution recognized by VNU (seeHERE).
6.3. Note:
- Foreign language certificates will be sent by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to the certificate-issuing institutions to verify the authenticity of the certificates. Candidates are responsible according to the postgraduate admission regulations of Hanoi National University for the authenticity of the submitted certificates.
- Certificates issued by Hanoi National University of Education, Thai Nguyen University, Can Tho University: Applicable to certificates issued after May 15, 2019.
7. Priority subjects and policies (applicable to master's entrance exams):
7.1. Priority subjects:
- Candidates who have worked continuously for 2 years or more (as of the deadline for submitting application documents) in localities defined as Region 1 (according to the current national high school enrollment area division table of the Ministry of Education and Training). In this case, candidates must have a decision to accept the job, a decision to recruit or transfer, or a work assignment from a competent agency or organization;
- Ethnic minorities with permanent residence registration for 2 years or more (as of the application deadline) in localities defined as Region 1;
- War invalids, people enjoying policies like war invalids;
- Martyr's child;
- Hero of the armed forces, hero of labor;
- Children of resistance fighters infected with toxic chemicals, recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as having deformities, disabilities, and reduced ability to self-reliant in daily life and study due to the consequences of toxic chemicals.
7.2. Priority level:
- Candidates who are in priority groups (including those who are in multiple priority groups) will have 10 points added to their exam results for English (on a 100-point scale) if they are not exempt from the English exam and 1 point (on a 10-point scale) added to their basic exam or 15 points (on a 150-point scale) added to their competency assessment exam results.
- Determination of priority subjects must be done at the time of registration.
8. Additional knowledge course schedule:
Candidates should contact the Training Department (Admissions Department) of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU and the Offices of the Faculties/Departments for details on the supplementary knowledge study plan. The school continuously organizes university supplementary knowledge classes for master's exams corresponding to the exam sessions during the year. Candidates in related/other majors must have a certificate of university supplementary knowledge in the corresponding majors to be eligible to take the exam.
9. Time for registration and receiving documents:
9.1. For master's candidates:
In 2020, registration will continue to be conducted on VNU's postgraduate admission software.
Candidate's duties:
- Access the VNU postgraduate admission software and register for the exam online according to the instructions. Candidates who have registered an account in previous admissions and have not enrolled at any unit in VNU can use their existing account to register for the exam in 2020. Candidates must commit and be responsible for the truthfulness of the declared information.
- Registration time:from 8:00 a.m. January 10, 2020 to 5:00 p.m. March 27, 2020.

- Pay the prescribed admission fee into the account of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU or pay directly in cash at the School.
9.2 For doctoral candidates:
In 2020, doctoral application is partially online.
Candidate's duties:
- Access the VNU postgraduate admissions registration portal at:http://tssdh.vnu.edu.vnto declare basic information.
- Registration time:from 8:00 a.m. January 10, 2020 to 5:00 p.m. March 27, 2020.
- Submit hard copy of documents according to school regulations(seeHERE)and submit directly to the Training Department (Admissions Department), Room 601, 6th floor, Building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, 336 Nguyen Trai, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi. Time to receive documents from 8:00 a.m. on January 10, 2020 to 5:00 p.m. on March 27, 2020. Documents sent by post will be counted according to the postmark before March 28, 2020.
Note:Each candidate must prepare 01 original set of documents.(documents with direct signature, notarized copies with red seal)and 05 photocopied sets of documents corresponding to the original set of documents.

10.1 Master's application fee:

- Admission fee: 200,000 VND/candidate
Note:No refunds will be made after the candidate has successfully registered and their application has been approved.
