A scientific conference on the theme "The Faculty of Philosophy - 35 Years of Research and Training" was held on September 30th. Attending the conference were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector of the University, and scientists from within and outside the university. The workshop aimed to summarize the significant achievements in 35 years of training and scientific research of the Faculty of Philosophy, while also discussing and outlining development strategies for the next phase of the Faculty. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van (Head of the Faculty of Philosophy) presented a report on the 35 years of development and growth of the Faculty of Philosophy in several key areas: organization, training activities, international cooperation, and infrastructure. The report emphasized that over 35 years of development, from a faculty established based on a strategy for the development of theoretical cadres in Vietnam, the Faculty has built a team of dedicated and highly qualified scientists. Regarding training, over the past 35 years, the Faculty has continuously strived to expand its scale and structure. From 61 students in the first cohort, the Faculty has now completed the training of 32 cohorts of full-time students with 2110 students and 8 cohorts of part-time students. Currently, the Faculty is training 325 full-time students in two training systems: standard and high-quality. In the field of postgraduate training, the Faculty is currently offering 3 master's programs, 2 doctoral programs, and will open 2 more doctoral programs in 2011-2012. Specific development strategies in each field were also presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van at the conference. The research and training achievements of the Faculty of Philosophy were further affirmed in the report "Faculty of Philosophy – a prestigious training ground for bachelor's graduates of the Institute of Philosophy" by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha (Institute of Philosophy). The report clearly states that from the very first cohorts of students from the Faculty, many generations of students have been accepted and are working at the Institute of Philosophy since then. Faculty members trained in Philosophy have the advantage of being equipped with fundamental knowledge of the history of philosophy and Marxist-Leninist philosophy, and a thorough understanding of the Party's political theory... Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha emphasized: Among the philosophy training institutions in our country today, the Philosophy Faculty of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is known as one of the institutions with a strong academic focus on philosophy.

At this conference, research and training issues in philosophy in the modern era were also raised. Associate Professor Phan Thanh Khoi (Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration) argued that it is necessary to "Enhance the practicality in philosophy lectures." According to Associate Professor Phan Thanh Khoi, lectures on political theory in general and philosophy in particular must be practical and always related to dynamic reality. Lecturers need to recognize the importance of enhancing the practicality in philosophy lectures and correctly understand the practical elements to incorporate into their lectures... Associate Professor Luong Dinh Hai (Institute for Human Studies) emphasized: It is necessary to combine research and teaching, avoiding subjective haste, and should have a program for gathering materials and restructuring all textbooks… In the coming years, the Philosophy Department should restructure its textbooks to be more up-to-date, fundamental, and consistent. In addition, there were many other opinions and reports focusing on specific topics related to research, training, and the role of philosophy in the modern era: "Teaching Philosophy in the Current Period" - Dr. Tran Thao Nguyen (Dai Nam University), "The Role of Philosophy and the Research and Teaching of Philosophy in the Current Context" - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan (Faculty of Philosophy - University of Social Sciences and Humanities), "Enhancing the Prestige and Position of the Faculty of Philosophy - University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the Renovation Period" - Assoc.
