Paying respects to Professor Nguyen Tai Can

Yesterday, February 28, 2011, at 1:30 PM local time (5:30 PM Hanoi time), the funeral of Professor, Doctor, and People's Teacher Nguyen Tai Can was solemnly held at the Khovanskoe funeral home in Moscow, Russian Federation. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) sent a wreath to pay respects to the Professor. On behalf of the University, Professor, Doctor, and Rector Nguyen Van Khanh sent a letter of condolences to Professor, Doctor N. Stankievich and his family.A letter of condolence was read at the funeral and delivered directly to the family. Below is the full text of the letter:Dear Professor Nonna Stankevich and her entire family, We have learned of the passing of Professor, Doctor, and People's Teacher Nguyen Tai Can, due to old age and frail health, on February 25, 2011; the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, and all staff, lecturers, and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, extend their deepest condolences to the Professor and his entire bereaved family. The passing of Professor Nguyen Tai Can is an irreplaceable loss for his family and a great loss for the University and the field of linguistics in Vietnam. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is very proud of the outstanding scientific achievements that Professor Nguyen Tai Can contributed to the overall success of the University and the field of linguistics in the country; and deeply saddened by his passing - a man with a pure heart for the common good, dedicated to science, and wholeheartedly devoted to the training of his students. We hope that Professor and his entire family will try to suppress their grief and overcome these difficult times together.
