CASA organizes "Academic Writing" course for students

The courses are organized under the coordination of two guests: Etienne Mahler and Leonie Salzmann - two German PhD students studying and working at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU. This is a useful course, aiming to create opportunities for students to learn and practice writing in a scientific style with international methods and standards that many universities around the world are applying.

Academic Writing is one of the most important skills for students, especially for those interested in scientific research and academic activities. However, writing skills are an obstacle for many Vietnamese students in writing essays in English. Therefore, the seminar was organized to support students not only to understand more about the theory of Academic Writing and its importance but also to be able to apply it to practical learning through practical exercises.

The sharing and discussion at the seminar revolved around the following contents: What is academic writing and why is it so necessary? How to identify research questions and how to structure a scientific article? Criteria for an academic article? How to cite in academic texts? How to format citations in articles? In addition, the two speakers also introduced to students some useful reference management software for writing essays and looking up documents.

Under the guidance of Leonie Salzmann and Etienne Mahler, the students had active discussions around the construction of a complete academic paper. Not only that, this was a good opportunity for the students to improve their ability to use English in communication and academic research.

Academic Writing Workshop is a useful event in a series of activities organized by CASA to support students in equipping and improving the necessary skills for self-development and serving learning and research activities. This is also the first Academic Writing course planned and implemented by students who are collaborators of CASA.
