Attending the ceremony were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hiep (Director of the Institute of Linguistics); Prof. Dr. Le Quang Thiem (Chairman of the Vietnam Linguistics Association), Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), along with representatives of the leadership of various units, former leaders, and faculty members, students, and trainees of the Faculty of Linguistics.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. Ngo Thi Kieu Oanh (Head of the Organization and Personnel Department) announced the decisions of the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities appointing: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Cam Lan as Head of the Faculty of Linguistics, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Hanh as Deputy Head of the Faculty of Linguistics for the term 2019 – 2024.


Professor Pham Quang Minh presented the appointment decision to Associate Professor Trinh Cam Lan and took a photo with the new Dean and Vice Deans of the Faculty of Linguistics.
On behalf of the University's leadership, Professor Pham Quang Minh emphasized the special significance of the ceremony, as the Faculty of Linguistics announced the appointment of its Dean on the occasion of the sacred Vietnamese Teachers' Day. The Rector acknowledged and praised the Faculty's long-standing tradition of over 60 years. He expressed hope that the new Dean would possess the strength and confidence to continue the mission of educating future generations, promoting and affirming the position of the Faculty of Linguistics in particular and the field of Vietnamese linguistics in general.

Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Cam Lan delivered a speech at the ceremony.
On behalf of the new Dean's Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Cam Lan expressed gratitude for the guidance and support of the University's Board of Directors; deep appreciation to the previous Dean's Offices and the companionship and sharing in scientific work from the Faculty's colleagues and organizations. The new Dean pledged to work with the successor team to the best of her ability to preserve and develop the achievements that generations of faculty and administrators have painstakingly built. In the new term, the Faculty will continue to innovate teaching and training methods and strengthen internal unity.

Also at the ceremony, representatives of veteran faculty members, students, and international students shared their emotions and nostalgia at being present and celebrating with the Faculty of Linguistics on this important occasion. They also expressed their commitment to the Faculty and wished it continued strong and sustainable development.

Professor Hoang Trong Phien, on behalf of the veteran faculty members of the Department of Linguistics, expressed his confidence in the Executive Board for the 5th term (2019-2024), comprised of individuals who have honed their skills and matured within the very training environment of the Department, in continuing the tradition of research and training, and keeping the flame of the teacher-student bond alive.

Student Nguyen Thi Thu Hang (K63 Linguistics) reminisces about her experiences since first entering the Faculty of Linguistics and expresses gratitude for the guidance and nurturing of the faculty members.

Patthida Bunchavalit, a Thai graduate student majoring in Vietnamese Language, expressed her gratitude to the faculty members of the Linguistics Department for providing international students with a warm and welcoming learning environment, helping them overcome feelings of alienation in a foreign land.
The Faculty of Linguistics of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was established in 1996 on the basis of the Linguistics Department of the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi University. The Faculty was the first unit in Vietnam to train Linguistics as a separate scientific discipline. The function and mission of the Faculty of Linguistics is to train high-quality human resources in linguistics, Vietnamese linguistics, the Vietnamese language and culture, and the languages of ethnic groups in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Over its more than 60-year history, the Faculty of Linguistics has trained approximately 25,000 Vietnamese and international undergraduates, graduate students, and researchers. The employment rate for Linguistics graduates, with jobs relevant to their field of study, consistently exceeds 90%. Many Vietnamese graduates have gone on to become high-ranking leaders in the Vietnamese Party, State, and social organizations. Numerous international undergraduates and researchers hold key positions in government agencies, research institutions, and educational organizations in their host countries. The Faculty also regularly sends lecturers to teach and conduct research exchanges at universities and research institutes in dozens of countries across all continents worldwide.

The Faculty has had and continues to have effective scientific cooperation and training partnerships with many international partners such as: Paris 7 University (France), University of California - Los Angeles, Cornell University (USA), University of Toronto, University of Ottawa (Canada), and the Australian National University (Australia). The Faculty has co-organized many scientific conferences, gaining recognition in the academic community, such as: the International Scientific Conference “Research and Teaching of Vietnamese and Chinese Language and Culture” (2007, 2009, 2011); and the International Scientific Conference “Teaching and Researching Linguistics in Vietnam: Theoretical and Practical Issues” (2011, 2013, 2016).
