On April 8, 2011, the first Vietnamese Studies and Language Student Scientific Conference was held. There were 15 topics registered for research by student groups. The students who presented papers at the conference were all first-year students – the first cohort of students in the Vietnamese Studies program. Despite limited time and their first experience with scientific research, the students actively collected materials, conducted fieldwork, and successfully completed their research. At the conference, 15 scientific papers were presented and discussed enthusiastically. These papers were also initiated and registered by the students themselves. Concluding the conference, Dr. Nguyen Thi Nguyet (Deputy Head of the Faculty) stated that 42 out of 72 Vietnamese students majoring in Vietnamese Studies participated in scientific research, accounting for 58.3%. If international students in this major are included, the rate exceeds 35%. Over 50% of the faculty members participated in guiding students in their research projects. Immediately after the conference concluded, the Steering Committee announced the Dean's decision and awarded prizes to the projects that achieved outstanding results, including:
