On April 12th, in Thanh Van commune, Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province, thousands of people, along with leaders from various departments and agencies of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), bid farewell to Professor, Doctor, and People's Teacher Nguyen Tai Can as he was laid to rest in his hometown cemetery.The organizing committee for the memorial service and funeral of Professor, Doctor, and People's Teacher Nguyen Tai Can included: the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nghe An province - Head of the committee, Associate Professor, Doctor Vu Duc Nghieu, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Deputy Head of the committee, and representatives from several departments and agencies of Nghe An province. At exactly 8:00 AM, thousands of people lined up to bid farewell to Professor Nguyen Tai Can's coffin as it was taken to its final resting place. General Secretary and Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong sent a wreath to pay respects to Professor Nguyen Tai Can. This was followed by wreaths from departments and agencies of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, Hanoi National University, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities... Respectfully addressing: - The spirit of Professor Nguyen Tai Can - The entire bereaved family and the Nguyen Tai clan - Representatives of various agencies and organizations - Elders, gentlemen, ladies, brothers, and sisters - Today, we are all gathered here to bid farewell to Professor Nguyen Tai Can, an outstanding figure of Hong Lam land, returning to his roots. The soul of this tireless bird has now returned to Hong Mountain, the source of his homeland! Ladies and gentlemen, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, formerly Hanoi University, is very proud of Professor, Doctor, People's Teacher Nguyen Tai Can, a Party member with over 60 years of Party membership, who dedicated his entire life to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. The University is very proud of him - a professor, a talented scientist who devoted his entire life to science, and made exceptionally outstanding contributions to the fields of linguistics and social sciences and humanities in our country. Professor Nguyen Tai Can was the quintessential embodiment of an educator who "studied tirelessly throughout his life and taught without weariness," dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the common good, showing immense care, love, and concern for the training of many generations of students, including those who have become key officials and leading scientists of the country. Although your physical body has departed, your kindness and dedication to everyone, your commitment to education, and your innovative scientific works will forever remain with the University, your homeland, and the scientific community of our nation. Professor Nguyen Tai Can was one of the leading experts in linguistics in Vietnam. In 2000, he was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize by the State for his works on Vietnamese grammar and history. Professor Nguyen Tai Can passed away on February 25, 2011, in Moscow (Russia) and was buried in his hometown on April 12, 2011.
