Opening of the Thai Studies Room

On March 6, 2015, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and faculty members and students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies welcomed Mr. Panyarak Poolthup (Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam) and Ms. Jariya Chirathivat (Member of the Board of Directors of Central Group Thailand) to the ribbon-cutting ceremony and handover of the Thai Studies Room at the University.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Panyarak Poolthup expressed his desire to collaborate with Robins Shopping Centre to assist the Faculty of Oriental Studies in upgrading and renovating the Thai Studies Room. To date, the facilities and learning resources in the Thai Studies Room have been significantly improved. Mr. Panyarak Poolthup hopes that this assistance will facilitate the School's research and training in Thai Studies, as well as strengthen relations between the School and the Thai Embassy in particular, and between Vietnam and Thailand in general.

On behalf of Robins Shopping Center – Central Group, Ms. Jariya Chirathivat also stated that through upgrading the Thai Studies Room at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Center aims to provide Vietnamese students with opportunities to better access Thai culture and the country itself. Investing in education is one of the business principles of the Center as well as Central Group Thailand.

In response, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim expressed his sincere gratitude to the Thai Embassy in Vietnam and Robins Shopping Center. The Vice Rector stated that the University's development has always been closely linked to international relations with foreign agencies and organizations. Therefore, the assistance from the Thai Embassy and Robins Shopping Center will greatly contribute to the research and training on Thailand for faculty and students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. This is especially significant given that the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, is one of the leading institutions for Thai studies in Vietnam. The Vice Rector hoped that the faculty and students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies would make good use of the facilities and learning materials provided by the Thai Embassy.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Thai Studies Room.
