The celebration of 38 years of training tradition and 15 years since the establishment of the Faculty of Information and Library Science was held on November 18, 2011.Attending the commemoration ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Hang - former Rector of the University, former Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Thuyet - former Vice Rector of the University, former Vice Chairman of the Committee on Culture, Education, Youth and Children of the National Assembly; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector of the University; representatives from central and local agencies: the Vietnam Information Science and Technology Agency, the Vietnam Library and Information Association; the National Association of Information Science and Technology; the National Library of Vietnam... Particularly noteworthy was the presence of generations of lecturers, students, and trainees of the Faculty of Information and Library Science.

The history of the establishment and development of the Faculty of Information and Library Science is divided into two stages: The first stage, from 1973 to 1995: 38 years ago, the Faculty of Information and Library Science, formerly the Department of Library and Bibliographic Studies under the Faculty of History, Hanoi University, trained its first cohort, K18. After 9 years of training 6 cohorts with 151 students, in 1982, the training was transferred to Hanoi University of Culture. The second stage, from 1996 to the present: On August 26, 1996, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities issued a Decision to establish the Department of Information and Library Science under the University. After more than 8 years of training, research, and preparation, on August 26, 2004, the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, issued a Decision to establish the Faculty of Information and Library Science under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, based on the Department of Information and Library Science. To date, the Faculty of Information and Library Science has achieved significant accomplishments in all areas: It has trained 2,426 undergraduate students, 120 postgraduate students, and nearly 500 students in short-term courses. Approximately 80% of graduates work in their field. The curriculum is constantly adjusted and updated with new knowledge, and the number of lectures and textbooks compiled is increasing. More than 113 undergraduate and postgraduate lecture outlines compiled under the credit-based training method have been approved and implemented. Scientific research activities of the Faculty of Information and Library Science have attracted many lecturers and students. Many groups and individuals have received commendations from the Rector, Certificates of Merit from the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Ministry of Education and Training... Other activities are also consistently emphasized and improved in quality, achieving good results. With the achievements it has made, the Faculty of Information and Library Science has received 1 Third-Class Labor Medal from the President of Vietnam, 1 Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, 12 Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, and 1 Commemorative Medal from Vietnam National University, Hanoi...

At this solemn ceremony, the Third-Class Labor Medal from the President of Vietnam and a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism were directly awarded to the Faculty of Information and Library Science. Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Quy - Head of the Faculty of Information and Library Science - expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the contributions of generations of teachers who have built and developed the faculty. She also thanked the agencies and organizations that have effectively assisted and cooperated with the Faculty in many fields. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Quy stated: In the coming time, the Faculty of Information and Library Science will be determined to uphold the training tradition of generations of teachers before, continue to build upon the achievements already made, and rapidly develop the faculty into a leading research and training institution in Information Science and Library Science at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the country. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Rector - congratulated and acknowledged the contributions of the Faculty of Information and Library Science to the overall development of the University. The Vice Rector expressed confidence in the strong future development of the Faculty. Veteran faculty members such as Associate Professor Phan Van - the first Head of the Information and Library Science Department - offered congratulations and were moved by the rapid development of the Faculty. Generations of students and trainees also expressed their honor and pride in the training tradition over the years.
