The ceremony to celebrate the 38th anniversary of training tradition and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Information and Library was held on November 18, 2011.Attending the ceremony were Associate Professor Dr. Pham Xuan Hang - former Principal of the School, former Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Thuyet - former Vice Principal of the School, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children; Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Principal of the School; representatives of central and local agencies: Vietnam Department of Science and Technology Information, Vietnam Library and Information Association; National Science and Technology Information Association; National Library of Vietnam... Especially the presence of generations of lecturers, students and trainees of the Faculty of Information and Library.
The history of the establishment and development of the Faculty of Information - Library is divided into two stages: The first stage from 1973 to 1995: 38 years ago, the Faculty of Information - Library was formerly the Department of Library - Bibliography under the Faculty of History, Hanoi National University and trained the first course of K18 of the School. After 9 years of training 6 courses with 151 students, in 1982 the training work was transferred to Hanoi University of Culture. The second stage from 1996 to present: On August 26, 1996, the President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities issued a Decision to establish the Department of Information - Library under the School. After more than 8 years of training, research and fully preparing all conditions, on August 26, 2004, the President of VNU issued a Decision to establish the Faculty of Information - Library under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the basis of the Department of Information - Library. Up to now, the Faculty of Information and Library has achieved remarkable achievements in all fields: The Faculty has trained 2,426 students, 120 graduate students and nearly 500 students in short-term courses. About 80% of graduates work in the right profession. The curriculum framework is always adjusted and updated with new knowledge, lectures and compiled textbooks are increasing day by day. There are more than 113 undergraduate and postgraduate lecture outlines compiled according to the credit training method that have been accepted and deployed for training. Scientific research activities of the Faculty of Information and Library have attracted many lecturers and students to participate. Many groups and individuals have received certificates of merit from the President, Certificates of Merit from the Director of VNU, the Ministry of Education and Training... Other activities are also always focused on by the Faculty of Information and Library, improving quality and achieving good results. With the achieved results, the Faculty of Information and Library has received 1 Third Class Labor Medal from the President, 1 Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, 12 Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, 1 Commemorative Medal from VNU...
At this solemn ceremony, the Third Class Labor Medal of the President and the Certificate of Merit of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism were directly awarded to the Faculty of Information and Library. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Quy - Head of the Faculty of Information and Library sent thanks and gratitude to the contributions of generations of teachers who have built and developed the faculty. And thanked the agencies and organizations that have helped and cooperated effectively with the Faculty in many fields. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Quy said: In the coming time, the Faculty of Information and Library will be determined to maintain the training tradition of previous generations of teachers, continue to promote the achievements that have been achieved, build and develop the faculty to quickly become a leading research and training institution in Information Science and Library Science at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the country. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Rector congratulated and acknowledged the contributions of the Faculty of Information and Library in the overall development of the University. The Vice Principal expressed his confidence in the strong development of the Faculty in the future. Senior teachers such as Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Van - the first Head of the Department of Information and Library Science congratulated and were moved by the rapid development of the Faculty. Generations of students and trainees also expressed their honor and pride in the training tradition over the years.
