On March 2nd, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with the University of Natural Sciences, solemnly organized a meeting of former leaders of Hanoi University from various periods. At the meeting, the professors and teachers reminisced about the valuable traditions of Hanoi University, now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.On behalf of the leaders of the two universities, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Luong - Vice Rector of the University of Natural Sciences, presented an overview of the situation and achievements of the two universities from 1995 to the present. Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the educators who have contributed their efforts and intellect throughout the years to build the prestigious Hanoi University. The prestige and tradition of Hanoi University are the foundation and premise for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to inherit and develop. Professors and educators who were former leaders of Hanoi University throughout the years shared their thoughts, feelings, and aspirations for the future development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Natural Sciences, and Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Below are some notes on the opinions expressed by the professors at the meeting: With the affection of a teacher and administrator who has been deeply involved with Hanoi University of Technology for many years, Professor Phan Huu Dat expressed his joy and emotion when recalling the past of Hanoi University of Technology, during the years when the whole country went through countless difficulties and challenges of the war period and the hardships of the bureaucratic and subsidized period, but the staff and students of the University still maintained their faith and strived to teach, study, and conduct scientific research to affirm the position of the University. Each verse of Professor Phan Huu Dat's poem marks unforgettable memories with milestones that mark the formation and development of Hanoi University of Technology. Professor Dr. Dao Trong Thi - former Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology - affirmed that the foundation of Hanoi University of Science and Technology is crucial for the development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Natural Sciences in particular, and Vietnam National University, Hanoi in general. Therefore, a plan is needed to continue maintaining and worthily inheriting the traditions of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Professor Dr. Le Quang Thiem - former Secretary of the Party Committee of Hanoi University of Science and Technology - reminisced about Hanoi University of Science and Technology and those who participated in building the university, along with its profound characteristics throughout its development periods.
Professor Phan Van Hap, Professor Phan Truong Thi, Professor Phan Tong Son, Professor Nguyen Can, Dr. Ho Duc Duc, Mr. Dang Huy Chi… recalled the precious traditions of Hanoi University of Technology with memories of teachers, friends, and students… The years spent at Hanoi University of Technology will forever remain unforgettable memories in the hearts of the former leaders of Hanoi University of Technology throughout the years. Even now, at an advanced age, these professors continue to diligently research, teach, and make positive contributions to the university's educational mission. Hanoi University of Technology is a university with its own unique identity, and according to Associate Professor Nguyen Huu Xi – former Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Technology – what makes Hanoi University of Technology valuable and prestigious is its comprehensive range of training and research in both Social Sciences and Humanities and Natural Sciences. These disciplines have enriched and expanded the comprehensive store of knowledge, thinking, and scientific methods of a large university. Professor Phung Huu Phu, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Hanoi University of Technology, stated that after many years of building and developing its intellect, methods, and style, it remains a single entity: Synthesis Intelligence, Synthesis Style, and Synthesis Spirit. The professor emphasized that the potential for synthesis is invaluable; therefore, in the development strategy of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Natural Sciences, and Vietnam National University, Hanoi, it is necessary to preserve the "Synthesis Tradition" to develop and maximize the valuable resources and potential of the University. Professor Tran Van Nhung, former Deputy Minister of Education and Training and former Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Technology, also stated that Hanoi University of Technology is a renowned university of basic sciences, providing high-quality, systematic training and research with a unique characteristic: systems thinking, which is essential for current development.
On behalf of the leadership of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Xuan Nha - Director of VNU - respectfully thanked the former leaders of the University of Hanoi from various periods for building a solid foundation for VNU's development. He also affirmed VNU's determination to inherit and worthily uphold the traditions of the University of Hanoi. The Director of VNU expressed his hope that the former leaders would continue to participate in supporting and contributing to the development of VNU in the coming years.
