Students of class QH-2009-X defend their graduation thesis

In late May and early June 2013, the faculties in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized graduation thesis defenses for students of QH-2009-X. The following is a quick note about the recent graduation thesis defenses.

Faculty of Oriental Studies: KLTN defense in Japanese

On June 4, the Faculty of Oriental Studies held thesis defenses for 69 students in 5 majors: Indian Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, Korean Studies, Chinese Studies, and Japanese Studies. Most of the theses were evaluated well with an average score of over 9, with some excellent theses achieving perfect scores.

This year, the Faculty of Oriental Studies has 01 thesis defended in Japanese by student Vu Thi Diem (Japanese major). This is the only thesis defended in a foreign language this year of the Department and was highly appreciated by the examination board for its topic, content, as well as the writing of the thesis in Japanese. The thesis achieved the maximum score: 10 points.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Chinh (Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies) commented: in general, the quality of students' KLTN this year is better than last year, with many new topics and high practical applicability.

Department of Anthropology: Emphasizing Field Surveys in KLTN

Field survey is a factor that the Anthropology Department's examination board is interested in and highly appreciates in this year's student's KLTN. This is a new point and also a mandatory requirement for students to stick closely to actual documents to have accurate research results.

The number of students selected to defend the Department's thesis is 13 students. The average score of the thesis is 9.5, of which 07 students scored 10.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Lam Ba Nam (Head of the Department of Anthropology), this year the number of students participating in the thesis defense is higher than in previous years, the quality of the thesis is guaranteed. And especially, many student research groups have been formed during the process of implementing the thesis.

Department of Psychology: research topics related to practical issues

32 students of the Faculty of Psychology successfully defended their thesis. The quality of the thesis was assessed by the examination board as relatively good with a minimum score of 9.0. The percentage of 9 and 10 points was higher than last year.

MSc. Nguyen Van Luot (Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology) said: “The strengths of this year’s KLTNs are that they have many new topics, closely linked to reality, and have good approaches. I also highly appreciate the students’ presentation skills and confidence during the defense process.”

Faculty of Sociology: largest number of students defending their thesis

The thesis defense ceremony of the Faculty of Sociology took place on May 26 and June 5. The Social Work Department had 43 thesis defenses, the Sociology Department had 42 thesis defenses. The lowest thesis defense score was 8.4 and the highest was 9.8.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa (Head of the Department of Sociology) said: “The quality of this year’s theses is better than last year’s, the topics are also diverse, addressing many hot social issues that the public is interested in. Some impressive topics are: “Awareness of littering attitudes of urban residents in Hanoi city”good“The role of Buddhism in social work activities”.

After defending, students must revise the thesis according to the Council's comments on both content and form to meet standards. All thesis will be digitized as reference material for future courses.

Faculty of Tourism Studies: KLTN is well invested

The thesis defense ceremony of the Faculty of Tourism Studies took place on May 28 with 15 theses, divided into groups of topics: Economics, Culture, Hotel Management. The number of theses this year is only 1/3 of the number of previous years. However, the quality of the theses is very good because the students have invested very carefully.

MSc. Nguyen Thu Thuy (Deputy Head of the Faculty of Tourism) said: “The topics of this year's students mainly revolve around issues of: special products in tourism combined with folk games for high school students. Some very new topics were highly appreciated by the council such as:Creative Tourism; New Points in Creative Online Marketing,.. The highest score is 9.8 and the lowest is 9.1”.

Faculty of Linguistics: defending thesis in English

The Faculty of Linguistics is the only faculty of the University that requires students to defend their thesis in English. Vice Dean of the Faculty – Dr. Nguyen Van Chinh said: “Defending the thesis in English is a mandatory requirement for students of the Faculty of Linguistics. Each student must complete two versions of the thesis, one in Vietnamese and one in English. When defending before the council, they can choose to defend in Vietnamese or English. However, students who defend in English will have higher scores and quality.”

If the average level of students in the whole school when graduating must reach the output English standard of 4.0 IELTS, Linguistics students must reach 6.0 IELTS. This year, 1/3 of the number of students defended their thesis in English. The number of students defending their thesis this year in the Faculty is 44, 3 times higher than last year. There are also cases where students have not been able to defend their thesis because the quality of their English thesis has not met the Faculty's requirements.

Dr. Nguyen Van Chinh commented that the quality of students this year is much better than previous years, the thesis topics are both theoretical and highly applicable. There were 5 perfect scores of 10 in the recent thesis defense.

Khoa Triết học: những vấn đề mới được chú trọng

Ngày 28/5 vừa qua, Khoa Triết học đã tiến hành lễ bảo vệ KLTN cho sinh viên, có 32 khoá luận chia làm 4 tiểu ban. Có 12 trong tổng số 32 sinh viên bảo vệ là của hệ Triết học chất lượng cao. Có 3 điểm 10 tuyệt đối thuộc về 03 sinh viên của hệ Triết học chất lượng cao.

TS. Trần Thị Hạnh (Phó Chủ nhiệm Khoa Triết học) cho biết: “Chất lượng của các khoá luận năm nay khá tốt do được đầu tư, tìm hiểu, khảo sát kĩ về các đề tài. Đề tài năm nay khá phong phú, dàn đều trên tất cả các lĩnh vực, được chia ra làm 6 chuyên ngành chủ yếu: Triết học Mác- Lê nin, Chủ nghĩa Xã hội Khoa học, Lịch sử Triết học, Mĩ học, Tôn giáo. Chỉ tiêu đánh giá của khoá luận năm nay khá chặt chẽ, nhằm đánh giá khách quan năng lực của sinh viên về cả kiến thức nền tảng và kĩ năng thuyết trình. Một số đề tài được hội đồng giám khảo đánh giá cao như: “Bước đầu tìm hiểu về văn hoá doanh nhân Việt Nam thời kì hội nhập” good “Tính tự quản của làng Việt Nam truyền thống với xây dựng nông thôn mới hiện nay”. Đặc biệt là đề tài “Quan niệm của Friedrich Nietsche trong tác phẩm “Zân thustra đã nói như thế” gây được ấn tượng mạnh đối với hội đồng chấm điểm”.

Khoa Lưu trữ học và Quản trị văn phòng: đề tài mang tính ứng dụng cao

Trong đợt bảo vệ KLTN vừa rồi, Khoa Lưu trữ học và Quản trị văn phòng có 26 sinh viên tham gia bảo vệ trong tổng số 76 sinh viên của khoá QH-2009X.

There are 02 outstanding theses that attract the attention of listeners: "Description of jobs of positions at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities"and "Office space organization”These are two practical and highly applicable topics that can be completely applied in the reality of the Faculty and the School. Both theses received a perfect score of 10.

Assessing the quality of this year's theses, Mr. Le Tuan Hung (Deputy Head of the Faculty) said: "This year's thesis topics are more diverse than previous years. In addition to traditional topics on clerical and office work, there have been many theses approaching new topics such as: office culture, ISO standards, office space organization. The new topics are all very close, practical and highly applicable."

Faculty of Political Science: policy of not focusing on scores

This year, the Faculty of Political Science has 27 students out of 44 students of the QH-2009X course defending their thesis. This year's theses are generally of high quality, with practical and current topics. There is no thesis that achieved absolute success, but the average thesis score is quite high: 9 points.

MSc. Dang Anh Dung (Training Assistant) said: “The Faculty advocates a more substantial assessment of the quality of theses, so the scores may not be high. The council not only evaluates the content of the topic, but also pays attention to other skills such as writing, argumentation, presentation, and debate. The policy is not to focus on scores, there are theses that only get 7.8 but still meet the standards and requirements of the Faculty. Although there are no absolute scores, the average score is quite high, and the highest is 9.7”.

There are topics that are impressive because of their topicality as well as the content mentioned in the topic, such as: "“The East Sea Dispute from a Geopolitical Perspective”(Nguyen Ba Phuc) or "Challenges of Vietnamese women participating in political life at present"(Pham Thi Nhung).

Faculty of International Studies: 01 thesis defended in English

The thesis defense ceremony of the Faculty of International Studies took place on May 6, with 23 theses, including one in English. This year's topics of students focused on a number of traditional topics such as: integration policies of countries, relations between countries, foreign policies, and global issues. The specific research contents were quite current issues: the accession of countries to the WTO, the issue of resolving conflicts between countries, territorial and resource disputes, the rise of China, disputes in the East Sea, etc.
