Representing the university were Dr. Phan Van Kien - Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training (USSH-SJC), and Ms. Luong Ngoc Vinh - Deputy Head of the Cooperation and Development Department. Representing the U.S. Embassy were Mr. Cameron Thomas-Shah - Spokesperson/Press Attaché, Ms. Ngo Thi Ngoc Chau - Information Specialist, and representatives and experts from various fields of the Embassy.
Mr. Cameron Thomas-Shah expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the University to the delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam. He emphasized that the U.S. Embassy wishes to learn more about the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – a leading journalism training institution in Vietnam – through areas such as training, international cooperation, and facilities, with the aim of establishing a long-term relationship between the two sides. Both sides are particularly interested in future cooperation opportunities to improve the quality of education.

According to Dr. Phan Van Kien, Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in general, and the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training in particular, have always been at the forefront, promptly updating new global trends, aiming to upgrade the quality of teaching and research. Especially with artificial intelligence (AI) becoming a new trend in modern technology strongly impacting journalism and communication, the Institute has been organizing many workshops on this topic and will soon incorporate AI into its training programs.
Dr. Phan Van Kien also emphasized that the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training has had many collaborative activities with the US Embassy in Vietnam. In the future, VNU-USSH proposes areas for cooperation with the US Embassy, such as funding for seminars, staff exchanges, and sponsoring experts to teach at the university. The Institute Director, Phan Van Kien, also shared information about the annual series of seminars on journalism and communication organized by USSH-SJC, which involves collaboration with media management agencies such as the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association, and cooperation with all research and training institutions in journalism nationwide.

According to Dr. Phan Van Kien, the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training is one of the two largest journalism and communication training and research institutions in Vietnam, offering three levels of education from bachelor's to doctoral degrees in Journalism and Public Relations. The Institute is also the first and only institution in the country to currently offer and award master's degrees in Journalism and Communication Management. Currently, the Institute has four departments: Journalism, Multimedia Communication, Communication Management, and Public Relations – Advertising. Bachelor's degree programs include Journalism, High-Quality Journalism, and Public Relations, with top-ranked student admissions nationwide.
In particular, USSH-SJC is committed to its training goal of providing foundational knowledge in social sciences and humanities, as well as basic knowledge of journalism and media, along with fundamental skills so that students can confidently enter the content industry in general, rather than just mastering the knowledge and skills of one type of journalism and media. USSH-SJC has updated its curriculum with new trends in the digital society, such as GPT chat, virtual reality, and augmented reality. This is the flexible application that the Institute is aiming for, expanding opportunities for students to access modern trends on multimedia platforms.
During the meeting, Mr. Luong Ngoc Vinh, Deputy Head of the Cooperation and Development Department, stated that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSH) is currently internationalizing its training and research activities, with more than 15 foreign lecturers participating in teaching. In addition, the university is also promoting international publications, regularly collaborating with prestigious international publications to enhance the influence of VNU-USSH on the international scientific map. Furthermore, the university is also promoting the publication of annual National Reports with high practical value.
Representatives from the U.S. Embassy expressed their desire for more opportunities to enhance exchange and cooperation with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in various fields. A spokesperson for the Embassy affirmed that this cooperation would promote and strengthen cultural exchange between Vietnam and the United States.
