Attending the reception for Associate Professor Spencer Phillips were also leaders of the Department of Cooperation and Development, the Center for Foreign Languages and Training Cooperation, and the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training.
Associate Professor Spencer Phillips shared: The University of Virginia is one of the most prestigious public universities in higher education in the United States. Every year, the University wishes to organize short-term joint training programs, send students to participate in study programs, academic exchanges and exchanges abroad. We have researched and are very impressed with the tradition, training achievements, and scientific research in the field of social sciences and humanities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Therefore, in 2023, the University of Virginia plans to send about 15 students to participate in this program at the School of Humanities. The program is called:“Hanoi's Hong River: Development, Climate, and Rights to the City”. In this program, students will study, research, and learn about topics related to the history, culture, environment, and art of Vietnam. The teaching staff participating in these courses will be experts from the University of Virginia and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In addition to classroom learning, students will also participate in internships, practical training, and extracurricular activities to some regions in Northern Vietnam to explore nature, cuisine, and traditional cultures.
Associate Professor Spencer Phillips emphasized that this is the first time the University of Virginia has cooperated to organize this program with a university partner in Vietnam and has chosen the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the University, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan was pleased and thanked the Board of Directors of the University of Virginia for choosing the School of Humanities as a partner to implement this very meaningful cooperation program. Over the years, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities has had experience in successfully organizing short-term training programs for students of a number of prestigious universities such as: Princeton University, University of California, California Polytechnic University (USA), Peking University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Xi'an University, Beijing Normal University (China), ... Therefore, we are very ready and will certainly coordinate to successfully organize this cooperation program. In addition, in the coming years, the University of Virginia wants to expand this program to many partners in the Central and Southern regions of Vietnam, the School of Humanities is also ready to act as a focal point to connect participating universities, diversifying research and exchange fields. Principal Hoang Anh Tuan also proposed the idea of sending some of the school's students to participate in this program with students from Virginia University so that they have the opportunity to interact, study, and exchange academic knowledge with experts from the world's leading educational systems.
A representative of the University of Virginia also added that students who participate in the program at the School of Humanities will be recognized for completing 3 credits in the school's training program.
At the end of the meeting, President Hoang Anh Tuan once again thanked Mr. Spencer Phillips and the Board of Directors of the University of Virginia, and highly appreciated the significance of this cooperation program. Immediately after this meeting, the two sides will sign a written agreement to serve as a legal basis for effective cooperation in 2023.
