University of Social Sciences and Humanities attracts international cooperation from 49 universities in China

On April 21, 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) had a meeting and worked with a delegation from 49 Chinese universities.
 
Attending the meeting, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there were Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the University; Dr. Pham Hoang Hung - Head of the Department of Cooperation and Development; Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Head of the Department of Training, Dr. Trinh Van Dinh - Head of the Department of Scientific Research Management; Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, Head of the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies.
On the Chinese side, there were Mr. Liu Xiaolong - Director of Global Business and Market - Beijing Chinese Language Testing International Education Technology Co., Ltd.; Mr. Tang Xiaowu - representative of Zhejiang University, Mr. Tao Zhiwu - representative of Wuhan University, Mr. Du Dangjun - representative of Lanzhou University and representatives of 49 universities in China.

University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU is an attractive destination for many Chinese students.
Speaking at the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities shared that VNU-USSH is the leading university in Vietnam in training in the field of social sciences and humanities with a history of nearly 80 years, a member of Hanoi National University - a university in the top of the prestigious international rankings. In the past time, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has signed 60 memorandums of understanding with prestigious universities of the People's Republic of China in Yunnan, Shanghai, Sichuan, Guangdong, etc.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU highly appreciated the cooperative relationship between Chinese universities.
According to the Vice President of the school, every year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities welcomes a large number of Chinese students to study, even during the time affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. Currently, there are nearly 200 Chinese students studying at VNU-USSH, such as in the faculties of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, Linguistics, Literature, Sociology, and Management Science. In addition, VNU-USSH is also attracting many Chinese students to participate in master's and doctoral programs. In the past 5 years, the school has completed training of 5 PhD students who are Chinese researchers, nearly 100 masters from Yunnan University, Kunming University of Technology, and Guangxi University for Nationalities.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities always considers cooperation with Chinese universities as a key orientation of the school. VNU-USSH has built short-term training programs with flexible study time, rich content in fields such as Vietnamese language and culture, organizing tours and experiences at famous cultural relics and landmarks in Vietnam. These training programs are expected to start enrolling students from the summer of 2023, attracting many Chinese students to study.
In particular, in May - June 2023, the school will have three working delegations with universities in China to sign and expand cooperation opportunities in training and scientific research.
Dr. Pham Hoang Hung - Head of the Department of Cooperation and Development, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, said that Chinese students studying at VNU-USSH are provided with the best conditions in terms of facilities for studying, dormitories, and medical care, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, Hanoi National University is implementing the construction of a university urban area in Hoa Lac, including the campus of VNU-USSH to welcome more international students as well as Chinese students to study.

Opening up many cooperation opportunities between VNU-USSH and Chinese universities
According to Associate Professor Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Head of Training Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-USSH has 103 training programs from bachelor to master and doctoral levels with a training scale of 10,000 people studying long-term training programs and 5,000 people studying short-term training programs.
Students and trainees are encouraged to develop scientific research activities, including many valuable topics about China, focusing on areas such as: China's relations with countries around the world from macro to micro, research on China's policies and development models.
In addition, the school has field trips to China that students responded to and participated in. Before the COVID pandemic, every year there were 600 - 700 students visiting and studying in China, showing that the need to learn about this country is very large.

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Thanh Nam said that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is currently a trusted partner of many universities around the world, including Chinese universities. In the future, the school hopes that Chinese universities will provide more study opportunities for VNU-USSH students in their country.

This visit and working session of representatives of Chinese universities to VNU-USSH shows the desire for sustainable cooperation with the school in the future.

Speaking at the meeting, representatives of 49 universities in China all highly appreciated the learning capacity of Vietnamese students at local universities. In the coming time, the universities will build cooperation programs in research and exchange of students and lecturers to VNU-USSH. One initiative proposed by representatives of the universities is the establishment of a research center on Vietnam and China at universities to enhance research capacity and mutual understanding in the fields of literature, history, geography, etc. of the two countries.
