Attracting VNU-USSH faculty to participate in the Fulbright Vietnam Scholar Program.

Recently, representatives from the Fulbright Scholars Program in Vietnam held a meeting with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, to attract faculty members to participate in an exchange program on teaching and research in the United States.
 
According to Ms. Hoang Phuong, Program Assistant, the Fulbright Program was established in 1946 and funded by the U.S. Congress to promote mutual understanding between nations through academic and cultural exchange. The program welcomes participation from scholars teaching and researching in the social sciences and humanities, science, and technology. Each year, 7 to 10 scholars are selected to participate in the program.
Scholars participating in the program are provided with an allowance to cover living expenses, transportation, health and accident insurance for the duration of the sponsorship. Typical allowances are for 5 months (one semester allowance) or 9 months (two semester allowance).
The working session attracted many young lecturers from various faculties of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi.
Ms. Hoang Phuong - Assistant to the Fulbright Program in Vietnam - shared detailed information about the program with lecturers from VNU-USSH.
Faculty members attending the meeting, from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and International Studies of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, were very interested in the program information and opportunities for international scholar exchange. Questions from VNU-USSH faculty members regarding participation requirements and application procedures were answered by representatives of the Fulbright Vietnam Program.
Faculty and student exchanges with prestigious organizations and universities around the world have been one of the vibrant activities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, for many years, aiming to fulfill the university's core mission of continuously improving the quality of training and the team of highly qualified scientific staff.

Information about the Fulbright Vietnam Scholars Program:
Application deadline:Before 5:00 PM on October 15, 2022(Vietnam time)
Eligibility criteria:
The program is open to all applicants who meet the following minimum criteria:
1. Be a Vietnamese citizen;
2. Hold an MA or Ph.D. degree (or equivalent qualification in certain specific fields);
3. Possess sufficient English language skills to conduct research and/or give presentations in the United States.
4. Applicants must be university lecturers, government officials, private sector professionals, working at consulting firms, or holding similar positions.
5. Applicants must have a substantial record of academic or professional achievement.
6. Candidates must reside in Vietnam throughout the nomination and selection process, and they must return to Vietnam after completing their stay in the United States.
Selection process:
1. The Fulbright Program sends grant announcements to universities, colleges, and research institutes across Vietnam annually.
2. A peer review panel is convened to select candidates based on academic achievement, potential to become important figures in their field, and innovative research topics or methods.
3. After the committee makes recommendations on candidates, the Fulbright Program will interview these candidates to assess their English language proficiency.
4. The program will submit its recommendations to IIE for further evaluation.
5. After the applications are evaluated, IIE will forward its selection to the J. William Fulbright Overseas Scholarship Council, which will make the final selection of participants.
