Within the framework of participating in working delegations of Hanoi National University and the Ministry of Education and Training in Europe, the leaders of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have promoted cooperation programs with several French partners in the near future.
On September 7, 2023, accompanying Professor Dr. Le Quan, Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan and other members of the delegation visited and worked at the headquarters of the French School of Far Eastern Studies (EFEO) in Paris.
During the meeting, the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Le Quan, and the Director of EFEO, Nicholas Fiévé, reviewed the results of the effective cooperation between EFEO, especially its representative office in Hanoi, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities over the past nearly 30 years through a series of major research projects, training programs, and interdisciplinary training for social sciences and humanities personnel. The leaders of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and EFEO agreed to strengthen cooperation and sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement as soon as possible.
Director Nicolas Fiévé received Director Le Quan and the VNU delegation at the EFEO headquarters in Paris, France.
Reporting to the leaders of the two units, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan informed them about the current state of cooperation between the two institutions and proposed priority directions to promote collaborative research, publication, and training programs in the field of classical studies (archaeology, ethnology, epigraphy, conservation, etc.), as this is a strength of EFEO and also the most consistent focus of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Director Nicolas Fiévé introduced Director Lê Quân to some valuable documents about Vietnam currently preserved at the French Institute of Far Eastern Studies in Paris.
Also on September 7, 2023, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan and the school's delegation visited and worked at the Vietnamica Project.
The Vietnamica project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC); Professor Philippe Papin is the project leader; Rector Hoang Anh Tuan is a member of the Steering Committee, responsible for training and participating in scientific and publishing activities.
It has been agreed to publish a 10-volume book series about Vietnam in 2024.
During the meeting, members discussed the main achievements over the past three years. Accordingly, 11 postgraduate students and 8 doctoral candidates received research scholarships totaling over 2 billion VND; 18 works have been published. Currently, 10 books on Vietnam compiled by French scholars have been translated by Vietnamica, edited and published by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities starting in 2024.
On September 8, 2023, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan visited and worked with the University of Montpellier to discuss cooperation plans between the two universities in 2024.
Professor Pierre Journoud (University of Montpellier, France) has led numerous scientific and training collaboration programs with the University for over a decade.
Both sides agreed on the following three key tasks: receiving Southeast Asian Studies students to intern and complete some credits in Hanoi; organizing international conferences and publications within the framework of the plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries; and supporting the development of Vietnamese language training and certification, as well as teaching Vietnamese culture in Montpellier in the near future.
Thus, along with the current stable cooperation program with French partners (Paris Sorbonne University, Paris Diderot University, Aix Marseille University, Toulouse Jean Raurès University, Toulouse le Mirail University, Institute for Advanced Studies, French Institute for Development Research IRD…), key programs with EFEO, EPHE, Vietnamica, Montpellier… in 2024 are expected to open up new professional opportunities for faculty and students of the University.
