On September 7, 2023, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Le Quan, Director of Hanoi National University, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan and members of the delegation visited and worked at the headquarters of the French School of the Far East (EFEO) in Paris.
At the meeting, VNU President Le Quan and EFEO Director Nicholas Fiévé reviewed the results of EFEO, especially the EFEO representative office in Hanoi, in effective cooperation with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities over the past 30 years through a series of major research projects, training programs and interdisciplinary staff development in social sciences and humanities. The leaders of VNU and EFEO agreed to strengthen cooperation and sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement as soon as possible.
Director Nicolas Fiévé received Director Le Quan and the VNU delegation at EFEO headquarters in Paris, France.
Reporting to the leaders of the two units, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan informed about the current cooperation status of the School, and proposed priority directions to promote cooperation programs in research, publishing and training in the field of archaeology (archaeology, ethnology, steles, conservation, etc.) because this is the strength of EFEO and also the consistent focus direction of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Director Nicolas Fiévé introduced to Director Le Quan some valuable documents about Vietnam currently preserved at the French School of the Far East in Paris.
Also on September 7, 2023, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan and the school's delegation visited and worked at the Vietnamica Project.
The Vietnamica project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC); Professor Philippe Papin is the Project Manager; Rector Hoang Anh Tuan is a member of the Management Board, in charge of training and participating in scientific and publishing activities.
Agree to publish a 10-volume book series about Vietnam in 2024
At the meeting, members discussed the main results of the past 3 years. Accordingly, 11 graduate students and 8 doctoral students received research scholarships worth more than 2 billion VND; 18 works have been published. Currently, 10 books about Vietnam compiled by French scholars have been translated by Vietnamica, edited by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and are responsible for publishing from 2024.
On September 8, 2023, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan visited and worked at Montpellier University on the cooperation plan between the two schools in 2024.
Professor Pierre Journoud (University of Montpellier, France) has chaired many scientific and training cooperation programs with the School for over a decade.
The two sides agreed on the following three key tasks: receiving students majoring in Southeast Asian Studies to Hanoi for internships and to study some credits; organizing international conferences and publications within the framework of the plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries; supporting the development of training - Vietnamese language certification exams and teaching Vietnamese culture in Montpellier in the coming time.
Thus, along with the current stable cooperation program with French partners (Paris Sorbonne University, Paris Diderot University, Aix Marseille University, Toulouse Jean Raurès University, Toulouse le Mirail University, Institute for Advanced Study, French Institute for Development Research IRD...), the key programs with EFEO, EPHE, Vietnamica, Montpellier... in 2024 are expected to open up new professional opportunities for the School's staff and students.
