Accompanying the Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong on his working visit to Sweden on September 11-12, 2023, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan and staff of the University worked with educational institutions in Sweden, met with the Association of Vietnamese Overseas in Stockholm, and exchanged information with the Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden regarding the teaching of Vietnamese language and research in Vietnamese studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Rector Hoang Anh Tuan reported to Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong and Ambassador Tran Van Tuan on key Vietnamese language projects implemented by the University under the direction of the Party Central Committee through the Ministry of Education and Training, and the priority investment of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi in building a comprehensive set of Vietnamese language teaching materials for overseas Vietnamese. This is the first comprehensive set of teaching materials in Vietnam encompassing the entire ecosystem for overseas Vietnamese, from teaching materials, methodological guidance materials, pronunciation correction materials, and advanced supplementary materials covering the fields of: social sciences and humanities, science and technology, Vietnamese arts and culture, tourism, cuisine, commerce, a handbook of common Vietnamese communication, and teaching Vietnamese through Vietnamese fairy tales. The Vietnamese language teaching ecosystem specifically for overseas Vietnamese also includes a set of assessment materials for elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels, and especially a system of assessment tests based on the 6-level Vietnamese language proficiency framework, which is the first of its kind to be compiled in a systematic and high-quality manner.
Of the 35 completed manuscript entries, language teaching experts from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, dedicated over 2,000 pages to a total of six books that guide parents and teachers on how to teach children in overseas Vietnamese families and multicultural families with one or both Vietnamese parents. This set of teaching guides is currently being published by the university and is expected to be released at the end of 2023.
In particular, in 2022 and 2023, Vietnam National University, Hanoi invested in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to build an online Vietnamese language teaching channel for overseas Vietnamese. After completion in September 2022, the University collaborated with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to send experts to organize free online Vietnamese language classes for overseas Vietnamese in more than 17 countries and territories for nearly a year.

Speaking at a meeting with the Association of Vietnamese Overseas Residents in Stockholm and surrounding areas, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed that the school, through the Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden, will provide maximum support to the goal of improving the Vietnamese language proficiency of over 22,000 overseas Vietnamese and contribute to preserving the national culture of the overseas Vietnamese community in Sweden through specific training and professional activities.
Initially, the school will focus on three key areas: organizing advanced professional development courses in Vietnamese language teaching for current Vietnamese language teachers in Sweden; regularly providing, through the Embassy, a system of teaching and learning materials for the Vietnamese language as well as materials on Vietnamese culture; and sending school staff to educational institutions in Sweden to develop curricula and teach Vietnamese language and subjects related to Vietnam, as directed by higher authorities.

On the sidelines of working sessions with the overseas Vietnamese community, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam, Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, discussed and agreed on a plan to organize training courses with Ms. Huong Mimmi Bergström, Head of the Vietnamese Overseas Association in Stockholm (Sweden) in the near future.
Also during the working trip, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan and the university staff accompanied Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong to visit and exchange views with several higher education institutions and management agencies under the Swedish Ministry of Education and Research, opening up opportunities for cooperation in research, training, staff and student exchange... for the university in the future.

From 2015 to the present, the Faculty of Vietnamese Language and Literature, with its specialized role, has become a leading unit in action programs aimed at spreading and honoring the Vietnamese language among Vietnamese communities worldwide, including: Successfully compiling the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, applied nationwide and in many countries (Decision No. 17/2015/TT-BGDĐT, dated September 1, 2015); Successfully compiled the Vietnamese language proficiency assessment test format based on the Vietnamese language proficiency framework for foreigners, applicable nationwide and in many countries (Decision No. 2097/QD-BGDĐT promulgating the test format and Decision No. 2098/QD-BGDĐT approving the guidance document for test construction and grading according to the Vietnamese language proficiency assessment test format for foreigners, dated June 21, 2016); Provided consultancy for the systematic development of the Vietnamese language teacher training program for foreigners, implemented jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Training; Successfully compiled the Vietnamese language teaching curriculum framework for Vietnamese people abroad based on the Vietnamese language proficiency framework for foreigners (part of the project "Improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning Vietnamese for Vietnamese people abroad," Decision No. 14/QD-TTg, dated January 6, 2017); He was in charge of the project to strengthen online Vietnamese language teaching for Vietnamese people abroad (Decision No. 1382/QD-TTg, dated July 12, 2016) and officially implemented it from 2019.
