Potential for cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chongqing University

On May 6, 2014, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector of the University - received and worked with a delegation from Chongqing University (China) led by Professor Zhao Chengping - Director of the Institute of International Relations.

Accompanying the delegation were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Phuong - Head of the Faculty of Literature, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Head of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, Dr. Nguyen Tho Duc - Head of the Department of Chinese Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies), and Ms. Tran Diep Thanh - Deputy Head of the Department of External Relations and International Training Cooperation.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the potential for cooperation between the two universities in three main areas: training, scientific research, and international cooperation.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim emphasized: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities places special emphasis on international cooperation, and expanding international cooperation is of great importance to the University's development. To date, the University has signed 193 cooperation agreements with international universities. Every year, the University organizes over 30 scientific conferences. Approximately one-third of the University's staff participate in academic exchanges abroad each year, and the University welcomes nearly 400 international scholars for scientific exchanges. The University has excellent cooperative relationships with many universities in China. It is hoped that this visit will provide opportunities for cooperation in many fields. Many of the current training programs at Chongqing University correspond to those offered at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Therefore, the two universities have enormous potential for establishing formal and long-term cooperation.

Professor Trieu Thanh Binh stated: "The delegation's visit to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities this time aims to establish and expand official cooperation. We hope that in the future, the two universities will soon develop cooperative relationships in the following areas: exchange of lecturers and students; collaboration in conducting joint scientific research; and organization of scientific seminars…"

Chongqing University is a comprehensive university established in 1929. Currently, it has 31 faculties offering programs in various fields: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, and Information Technology. Among these, there are 13 colleges within the Social Sciences Research College, including the College of Law, the College of Public Administration, the College of Journalism and Communication, the College of Film, and the College of Foreign Literature. Chongqing University has a total of 45,000 students and 5,800 staff. The number of international students in 2013 totaled 1,285, including 138 Vietnamese students.
