Youth of the Humanities: Pure heart - Bright mind - Courage - Proactive - Integrated

Attending the official session of the Congress held on the morning of April 26, 2014 were Comrade Nguyen Van Thang (Member of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City Youth Union), Comrade Nguyen Hai Minh (Member of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, Deputy Secretary of the Central Enterprise Bloc Youth Union), Comrade Trinh Minh Thai (Deputy Chief of the Central Office of the Youth Union), Comrade Nguyen Thien Tu (Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the School Youth Department of the Hanoi City Youth Union, Standing Vice President of the Hanoi City Student Association); on the side of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, there was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Huong (Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Trade Union, Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department), Comrade Truong Ngoc Kiem (Secretary of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Youth Union); on the side of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there was Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the University) along with representatives from the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, the Trade Union, the Veterans Association, departments, centers, the Party branches of faculties/departments and 201 delegates representing nearly 6,000 union members.

The Congress heard the Report summarizing the work of the Youth Union and youth movement of the University during the 2012-2014 term and the direction of activities for the 2014-2017 term. During the past term, the work of the Youth Union and youth movement of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities achieved comprehensive results in all areas of activity. The targets for the entire term were basically completed, with many targets being achieved excellently. The action programs of the University's youth were actively and effectively implemented, contributing to improving the quality of training and fostering the moral and political ideology of the Youth Union members. During the 2012-2014 term, the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities continued to be a leading unit in the movements of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Youth Union and the Hanoi City Youth Union. In particular, in 2013, the University's youth were honored to receive a Certificate of Commendation from the Prime Minister.

During the 2014-2017 term, the youth of the University will continue to affirm the pioneering position of the Youth Union organization within the University's political system, affirming its leading role in the Youth Union movement of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, gradually developing the unique characteristics of the University's youth in the social sciences and humanities; taking political and ideological education as its orientation, focusing on activities supporting the comprehensive development of union members and students, based on effectively promoting the role of union officials and members, improving the quality of union affairs, association affairs, and branch activities. For the 2014-2017 term, the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will adopt the slogan: "Youth of the Humanities: Pure Heart - Bright Mind - Courage - Proactive - Integrated" as its action slogan.

Speaking at the Congress, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh (Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of the University's Youth Union to the overall development of the University in particular and Vietnam National University, Hanoi in general. At the same time, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the University highly appreciated the achievements of the University's youth in implementing two programs: political and ideological education, moral and lifestyle orientation for union members, and cultural, sports, arts, and volunteer activities contributing to the community.

The Rector emphasized that during the 2014-2017 term, the University Youth Union Executive Committee needs to focus on effectively implementing several key tasks: The Youth Union should pay attention to and cultivate ideals for its members and young people, providing various forms of political and ideological education, and guiding the morals and lifestyles of its members and students. In addition, the Youth Union needs effective solutions to gather, encourage, and create favorable conditions for its members and young people to successfully complete assigned tasks and actively participate in social activities. At the same time, the Youth Union needs to pay attention to and have a specific plan for the planning and training of Youth Union officials from the branch level to the University Youth Union, and have policies to encourage members who achieve outstanding results in their work and studies.

The Congress elected the Executive Committee of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the term 2014-2017, consisting of 21 members. Comrade Tran Bach Hieu (Faculty of Political Science) was elected as the Secretary of the Youth Union, and Comrades Nguyen Thi Mai Lan (Administrative Block) and Ta Thi Bich Ngoc (Faculty of Management Science) were elected as Deputy Secretaries of the Youth Union.
