This activity aligns with the vision and development strategy of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities until 2020, which considers research as the main pillar driving and guiding the university to become a research university.

The 2015 series of seminars will consist of five main seminars, taking place from May 2015 to January 2016.

Each seminar will feature two presentations focusing on the following specific topics:

ButNew approaches in Asian studies;

- Applying corpus linguistics to the teaching and learning of Asian languages;

- Traditional cultural and religious characteristics of Japan and other Asian countries - their influence on modern life in these countries and the Asian region;

- The role of Japan in the development of the new Asia;

- New findings in research from Japan and other Asian countries;

- Researching contemporary literary trends in Japan and other Asian countries.

This series of seminars aims to achieve the following goals:

- Bringing together participants from various disciplines within the Faculty of Oriental Studies such as Chinese Studies, Korean Studies, Japanese Studies, Indian Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, as well as other fields such as Economics, History, Politics, Linguistics, International Relations… to approach issues from multiple research perspectives and clarify questions raised by young lecturers.

- Expand the network of young researchers studying Japanese studies as well as Oriental studies.

- To clarify Japan's role and position within the current political and international relations in Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia.

The Department of Oriental Studies has many advantages due to its regional and interregional characteristics, as well as its high degree of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature. Furthermore, most faculty members have received their training in various countries, allowing them to share research methods and theories related to their respective fields and other disciplines. Through seminars, young faculty members have more opportunities to present their findings, gather research information, expand their academic networks, and enhance their debating skills and interdisciplinary approaches.

The first seminar in the series "New Studies on Japan and Asia" in 2015 took place on May 23, 2015. Ms. Ho Thi Thanh (Department of Southeast Asian Studies) presented a report on "THE ROLE OF CIVIL SOCIETY IN PROMOTING DEMOCRATIC REFORM IN INDONESIA - FROM 1998 TO THE PRESENT". The author assessed that the activities of civil society organizations have played a crucial role in promoting the democratization of Indonesia over the past half-century. Many civil society organizations have conducted on-site monitoring, campaigned to raise public awareness, and pressured the government to change relevant policies, but these activities have faced numerous obstacles from government officials, collusion between power groups, and social habits. The report, presented by Associate Professor Dr. Ngo Van Doanh (Institute of Southeast Asian Studies), is considered a fundamental and timely scientific issue. The experiences and lessons learned from the formation and operation of civil society organizations and their role in promoting democratic reforms in Indonesia from 1998 to the present are certainly significant for Vietnam in its current stage of building a prosperous, democratic, and civilized nation.

Ms. Ho Thi Thanh presented her report at the seminar.

TS. Nguyen Tran Tien presented the topic "The National Liberation Movement in India: Subhas Chandra Bose and the Path of National Salvation Following Japan".

In over 20 pages, Dr. Nguyen Tran Tien has successfully outlined the Indian people's struggle against British colonialism. In particular, against the backdrop of this national liberation movement, the emergence of Subhas Chandra Bose and his proposed and implemented policy of reliance on Japan for national salvation are vividly portrayed by the author through the collection and processing of information from various sources. It can be said that Subhas Chandra Bose's activities are presented quite vividly and specifically, making the overall picture of the Indian national liberation movement more diverse and harmonious. Associate Professor Dr. Van Ngoc Thanh (Hanoi University of Education) commented that Dr. Nguyen Tran Tien's research on Subhas Chandra Bose and his ideology of relying on Japan for national salvation provides important insights into understanding the national liberation movements in Asia during World War II. At the same time, it also helps us to gain a more thorough understanding of the "Eastern Movement" in Vietnam.

The two presentations received numerous questions and comments from the large number of attendees.

The second seminar is scheduled to be held on July 18, 2015.
