On October 17, 2010, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to summarize the trade union's work for the 2009-2010 academic year and a seminar on "Female staff and employees and the issue of improving their qualifications".On behalf of the school's Trade Union Executive Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang (Chairman of the Trade Union Executive Committee) presented the report summarizing the trade union's activities in the 2009-2010 academic year. The report highlighted many important and outstanding achievements of the trade union in the past year: actively participating in credit-based training, improving the quality and effectiveness of scientific research; participating in organizing the Staff and Faculty Conference and implementing the conference resolution, ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of staff and faculty, carrying out social and charitable work; participating in adjusting and monitoring the implementation of the internal expenditure regulations to ensure the legitimate rights of union members and in accordance with current regulations; building the trade union organization and directing the activities of the People's Inspection Committee. In the 2010-2011 academic year, the trade union continued to effectively implement the emulation movements launched by trade unions at all levels, such as: Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, Every teacher is a moral example of self-study and self-creativity, Excelling in school work and managing household responsibilities, Innovating university management... The focus was on three key tasks of the trade union's activities this academic year: - Focusing on mobilizing union members to thoroughly implement the regulations on training and upgrading the qualifications of staff issued by the University. - Finding solutions to promote scientific research. - Strengthening the campaign to build a workplace culture: strictly adhering to labor discipline and collective activities. On the same day, the University's Trade Union organized a seminar on "Female staff and employees of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the issue of upgrading qualifications". This is one of the activities organized to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Women's Union (October 20, 1930 – October 20, 2010). The introductory report by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Quy (Vice President of the Trade Union Executive Committee) showed that, although the ratio of male to female lecturers is equal, the number of female lecturers with master's and doctoral degrees is lower than that of male lecturers (40 out of 148 female lecturers hold master's degrees (27%), and 53 out of 133 female lecturers hold doctoral degrees (39.8%). Four other reports and presentations were discussed at the seminar, focusing on exchanging experiences, evaluating advantages and difficulties, and proposing the best solutions for female staff to improve their qualifications. Ms. Nguyen Thi Nam Hoang (Faculty of Literature) stated that further education is both an aspiration and a responsibility for each female staff member, and that this process presents unique challenges requiring greater effort from female staff. Her presentation was titled "Improving the Professional Qualifications of Female Staff in the Faculty of International Studies." – The study "Current Situation and Solutions" by Ms. Vu Anh Thu and Ms. Le Tuyet Mai specifically outlines the difficulties in improving the professional qualifications of female staff members in the Faculty of International Studies. It examines both objective and subjective reasons for the failure to meet the required standards for teaching staff. Ms. Vu Anh Thu and Ms. Le Tuyet Mai proposed several solutions, including: ensuring that the requirements for achieving international standards take into account time constraints; and providing financial support for staff members pursuing postgraduate studies and doctoral research. Currently, female staff members account for over 60% of the total staff at the university, with a large proportion being young female staff. Therefore, improving professional qualifications is both a need and a responsibility for every staff member at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
