The University of Social Sciences and Humanities receives the Certificate of Educational Quality Accreditation.

On October 6, 2016, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi) held a ceremony to announce the decision and award the Certificate of Educational Quality Accreditation (abbreviated as EQA) to three member universities of VNU-Hanoi: the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Foreign Languages, and the University of Economics.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities receives the Certificate of Educational Quality Accreditation.

These are the first three member universities of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi to be assessed and certified as meeting educational quality standards by the Center for Educational Quality Assurance - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, an independent quality accreditation organization in Vietnam.

Attending the ceremony, on behalf of VNU Hanoi were Director Nguyen Kim Son, the Deputy Directors, senior experts, leaders of the Office, functional departments, the Institute for Educational Quality Assurance, the Center for Educational Quality Accreditation, and member and affiliated units.

Mr. Nguyen Hoi Nghia, Vice Director of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Director of the Center for Educational Quality Assurance - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, attended and presented the educational quality accreditation certificates to 3 member universities of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Department of Examination and Quality Assurance of Education – Ministry of Education and Training, and the Center for Quality Assurance of Education - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

As of September 2016, only three universities in Vietnam had been certified as meeting quality standards according to the Ministry of Education and Training's criteria. Therefore, the certification of these three member universities of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) doubles the number of Vietnamese universities that have received quality certification, bringing the total to six.

The Vice Rector of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Director of the Center for Educational Quality Assurance - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Hoi Nghia, presented the educational quality accreditation certificate to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The Center for Educational Quality Assurance - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City organized the assessment of educational quality of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi from December 4th to 7th, 2015, and the University of Foreign Languages ​​- Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the University of Economics - Vietnam National University, Hanoi from March 22nd to 25th, 2016.

All three member universities of Vietnam National University, Hanoi have met the quality standards of the Ministry of Education and Training, including important criteria regarding staff, training programs, scientific research, and student employment.

Through the evaluation process, all three member universities of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) achieved top scores compared to other universities that have been accredited according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training to date. This is an important milestone in VNU's educational quality accreditation activities, affirming the quality of VNU's training to society.

According to Nguyen Hoi Nghia, Vice Director of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, these are the first three universities to be certified for educational quality by the Center for Educational Quality Assurance - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, building a culture of quality towards sustainable development at higher education institutions.

The Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Nguyen Kim Son, delivered a speech at the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Nguyen Kim Son, said that Vietnam National University, Hanoi has always been a pioneer and proactive in participating in quality assurance and accreditation activities both domestically and internationally, and has achieved important results, contributing to further enhancing its reputation and affirming its brand.

Director Nguyen Kim Son suggested that units certified for educational quality accreditation should continue to build on their strengths, improve and adjust their weaknesses to continuously enhance quality, gradually developing the Vietnam National University, Hanoi comprehensively, according to the standards of an advanced research university, and contributing to the development of national education.

Along with three other universities that have received accreditation, the University of Technology and the University of Education of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) have had their evaluation results approved by the Council for Educational Quality Accreditation and will be awarded accreditation in the coming days. The University of Science will be evaluated by ASEAN experts in January 2017 and will be the first university to be evaluated by the ASEAN University Network (AUN). Thus, VNU will be the first university to have all its member universities (with training programs and graduating students) evaluated and accredited according to Vietnamese or international standards.

Quality accreditation of educational institutions is one of the key tasks in the era of international integration, as required by the Ministry of Education and Training. The objectives of quality accreditation, according to Article 49 of the 2012 Law on Higher Education, are: to ensure and improve the quality of higher education; to confirm the extent to which higher education institutions or training programs meet the objectives of higher education in each specific period; to provide a basis for higher education institutions to explain to competent state management agencies and society the actual quality of training; and to serve as a basis for students to choose higher education institutions and training programs, and for employers to select personnel.

The results of higher education quality accreditation are used as one of the criteria for stratifying and ranking higher education institutions; as a basis for determining the quality of higher education, the position and prestige of higher education institutions; for exercising autonomy and self-responsibility; for supporting investment and assigning tasks; and as a basis for the State and society to monitor the activities of higher education institutions.

The Certificate of Educational Quality Accreditation recognizes an institution as meeting educational quality standards and is valid for 5 years. According to Government Decree 73/2015/ND-CP dated September 8, 2015, which stipulates the standards for stratification, ranking framework, and ranking standards for higher education institutions, the results of educational quality accreditation are considered one of the conditions for stratifying and ranking higher education institutions.

Currently, there are four accreditation centers nationwide licensed by the Ministry of Education and Training. The Center for Educational Quality Accreditation - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was the first center licensed by the Ministry of Education and Training, and to date, more than 30 universities have registered for quality accreditation at this center. Educational quality accreditation is carried out in accordance with the Law on Higher Education enacted in 2012 and the plan for higher education quality accreditation approved by the Minister of Education and Training.
