At the exchange event, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh welcomed Professor Detlef Briesen and the students from the University of Giessen, Germany. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Giessen have had many effective collaborations over the past 10 years. These collaborations include faculty and student exchanges, joint research projects, and especially the organization of international conferences. The two sides have jointly organized numerous international conferences such as "Population, Health and Medicine in Developing Countries: The Case of Vietnam from the 18th Century to the Present," the conference "Rule of Law: Theory and Practice" on September 18, 2014, and the conference "Interdisciplinary Approach in the Study of Vietnamese Urban History" on September 30, 2015. In addition to research and academic exchange activities, the two universities have also held exchanges and meetings between students. Dr. Pham Quang Minh emphasized the importance of these activities in promoting interaction and exchange between students and faculty of the two universities.

Following the introduction, the Rector and students of the University listened to a presentation by students from Giessen University on the topic "The Urban History of Hanoi and Urban Development from the Kingdom Period to the Renovation Period." The presentation compared Hanoi and Frankfurt (Germany) in terms of urban planning and commercial structure across three periods: the colonial period, the period of the struggle against imperialism, and the Renovation period, aiming to clarify the similarities and differences between the two cities. The presentation received many questions and comments from students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Founded in 1607, the University of Giessen currently has over 20,000 students and a faculty of 2,000. Giessen excels in social sciences such as economics and law, alongside a strong tradition in medicine with notable specialties like modern chemistry and nutrition. Giessen has also established several research centers specializing in social sciences. The University of Giessen's educational system is similar to that of European countries; in particular, Giessen places great importance on internationalization and the need for exchange and learning with organizations and universities in Asia.
