Ladies and gentlemen,

- To all the bereaved family members!

Comrade Tran Trong Cao was born on June 27, 1948, into a family with a patriotic tradition in Hoa Hau village, Nhan Hoa commune, Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province. Growing up amidst the nation's protracted resistance wars, during those years of great danger and challenge, despite his young age, he enthusiastically participated in local work, eventually becoming the Youth Union Secretary and Deputy Platoon Leader of the Nhan Hoa commune militia. In 1965, at the age of 17, he volunteered to join the Youth Volunteer Force fighting against the US for national salvation, working at Supply Depot 14 in Quang Binh province. Due to his many achievements in work and combat, in March 1967, he was honored to be admitted to the Party right in the "steel land," the frontline of Quang Binh.

In August 1967, like many young people of that era, Comrade Tran Trong Cao enthusiastically joined the Vietnam People's Army, working in Unit 559, and was assigned the position of Platoon Leader of the Engineering Corps of the heroic Truong Son Army. Under fierce fighting conditions, together with his comrades, he created fake battle positions and transport convoys to deceive the enemy, drawing their bombs and bullets towards himself, ensuring the smooth operation of the East Truong Son - West Truong Son routes and the Ho Chi Minh Trail. In April 1969, while participating in combat on Route 20 Quyet Thang, he was partially wounded by enemy bombs and was treated at Hospital 91 and then Unit 231 of the Viet Bac Military Region, where he was recognized as a Class 2/4 Wounded Soldier.

In September 1971, young war invalid Tran Trong Cao was sent to study at the War Invalids Cultural School of Hai Hung province. During this time, he enthusiastically studied while actively participating in the movement, serving as a member of the Executive Committee of the Youth Union and as Deputy Secretary of the Party Branch. With his efforts and determination to overcome difficulties, in February 1974, he passed the entrance exam to the Chemistry Department of Hanoi University. After graduating in November 1977, he was selected for further training at the Central Propaganda School I, and then returned to work at the University, later the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, until his retirement.

Ladies and gentlemen,

- To all the bereaved family members!

Comrade Tran Trong Cao was not only a manager but also a teacher to many generations of students. In university lecture halls, he dedicated all his intellectual resources, his faith and love for the Party, and the doctrines of Marxism-Leninism... to teaching political theory to students. Remembering Professor Tran Trong Cao, many generations of students from the former University of Hanoi and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities always remember a kind, simple, and extremely enthusiastic teacher. He always loved and cherished his students, especially those with particularly difficult circumstances.

As a Party member and lecturer, Comrade Tran Trong Cao has always been a shining example of pioneering spirit, responsibility, and a willingness to think outside the box and take initiative. During his years working at the University, especially in the early years of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities' establishment, he worked tirelessly with the leadership and the entire staff, striving together to build the initial, fundamental foundations for the long-term development of the university.

Thanks to his competence, moral character, and high sense of responsibility, Comrade Tran Trong Cao was always trusted by the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and entrusted with many important responsibilities: Head of Department, Deputy Secretary of the Party Branch of the Philosophy Faculty; Head of the Administration - Propaganda - External Relations Department; Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department; Head of the Personnel Department, Deputy Secretary of the University's Party Committee. In every position, Comrade Tran Trong Cao always demonstrated the noble qualities of an educator, a manager, and a communist, and always fulfilled his duties well. He lived peacefully, optimistically, and with unwavering loyalty and devotion to his comrades, family, friends, and colleagues. The bombs and bullets of war, the harsh trials of life, could not break the will of this veteran. He is an example of resilience and a zest for life. Despite losing a part of his body in the war, he remained optimistic, actively engaging in sports and achieving many successes in competitions.Gold, silver, and bronze medalsHe was a member of the National Athletics Championships for people with disabilities; he competed in international competitions such as the Asian Championships in Beijing; he participated in and completed the Great Wall of China; and was then invited to participate in the famous annual marathon in the United States for three consecutive years: 1995, 1996, and 1997. Many of us still remember the image of this athlete, a wounded veteran, a resilient and determined soldier with a disabled leg and bleeding knee, who ran over 42 km to become one of the first Vietnamese people to raise the red flag with a yellow star on American soil, moving thousands of hearts of international friends.

Comrade Tran Trong Cao not only fought and sacrificed his youth and blood for the independence and freedom of the nation, but also contributed to building peace. Before relations between Vietnam and the United States were normalized, the photograph of wounded soldier and veteran Tran Trong Cao walking arm-in-arm with American veteran Kelly on a crowded sidewalk in New York City was published by the American and international press as one of the proofs of selflessness, humanity, justice, and peace.
