
Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh, the Rector of the University, is chairing the conference.
Following the opening remarks, the conference listened to the draft report summarizing the 2015-2016 academic year and the plan for the 2016-2017 academic year, presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Vice Rector of the University.
During the past academic year, the school achieved many outstanding accomplishments. The school was assigned to lead the implementation of 16 national-level projects; 18 Nafosted-funded projects, 2 provincial/city-level projects, 35 VNU-level projects, and implemented 23 institutional-level projects. The school had one project that won the VNU-level Outstanding Science and Technology Award in 2015, five projects that won VNU-level Science and Technology Awards (2010-2015), and two research groups from the school were recognized as strong research groups at the VNU-level.
The school has published 19 textbooks, monographs, and reference books, 481 articles in scientific journals, participated in scientific conferences/seminars, including 52 international publications. It has also organized 18 scientific conferences and seminars, including 5 international conferences.

During the past academic year, the school welcomed 930 international students and scientists to participate in seminars, scientific exchanges, internships, studies, and research. The school also hosted more than 20 international delegations, including high-level delegations from the Lao Ministry of Science and Technology and the US Department of State, for cooperation and exchange programs.
In the 2016-2017 academic year, the University will continue to comprehensively and synchronously innovate all its activities, focusing on improving training processes, promoting support and services for staff and students to enhance the quality of training and scientific research, training qualified staff, creating strong solutions for the internationalization of training programs and international publications, striving to improve the material and spiritual well-being of staff, and building the university to achieve level 3 of a research university.
The theme for the 2016-2017 school year was defined as: learning ability - creativity - quality - pioneering spirit.

Associate Professor Tran Thi Minh Hoa, Vice Rector of the University, is presenting the University's financial activity report.
Issues related to the school's financial activities during the past academic year were also reported to the conference by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa, Vice Rector of the school. Accordingly, supplementary revenue in 2015 increased by 12% compared to 2014. Compared to 2014, the income of staff and faculty in 2015 increased by an average of 8.5%.
On behalf of the leadership of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Son highly appreciated the achievements that the University had made in the past academic year, and welcomed the directions that the University has set for the next academic year, 2016-2017.

Reflecting on the challenges faced when more than half of the university's training programs are in basic sciences (fields that were once the pride of many generations but are now at a disadvantage in terms of competition), Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son shared: This is a challenging and difficult period, with many issues that were unprecedented, unaddressed, or unresolved in the previous period, requiring the university's collective efforts to unite, focus, and accelerate in its development orientation.
"Only through development can we survive, and to achieve that, the university needs to restructure and reorganize its academic programs to increase their competitiveness," Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son emphasized.
In addition, the school needs to find sources of funding to invest in order to increase its development resources. This includes building learning facilities, study spaces, research areas, and practical training facilities for students.

Overview of the conference
In the morning session, the conference also heard presentations on innovation in training management and improving training quality; a report assessing the situation of international publications during the 2010-2015 period and proposing some solutions to enhance international publications.
