Associate Professor Hoang Minh Son, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has been appointed Acting Minister of Education and Training by the Prime Minister.
Associate Professor Hoang Minh Son, born in 1969, hails from Hung Yen province. He is an Associate Professor and holds a PhD in Control and Automation Engineering. Prior to assuming the position of Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, he held several important positions, including: Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Chairman of the University Council of Hanoi University of Science and Technology; and Deputy Minister of Education and Training.
In all his positions, he consistently demonstrated innovative thinking and decisive leadership, contributing to promoting university autonomy, digital transformation in education, and improving the quality of training high-quality human resources, especially in the fields of science and technology, engineering, and cutting-edge technologies.
While serving as Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son directly oversaw many areas, including higher education, leaving many important marks: advising on the improvement of mechanisms and policies on university autonomy; promoting the implementation of the amended Law on Higher Education, contributing to enhancing the autonomy and accountability of higher education institutions; directing the development, promulgation, and implementation of training program standards and higher education institution standards; promoting accreditation and quality assurance; promoting digital transformation in higher education; encouraging the development of online training, digital learning materials, and the application of technology in university management; strengthening the connection between training and the needs of the labor market and businesses; promoting the development of key industries and fields such as information technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, digital transformation, and innovation, etc.
With his innovative thinking, decisive leadership, and extensive experience in university administration, he has made significant contributions to improving the quality, standing, and competitiveness of Vietnamese higher education.
At Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Comrade Hoang Minh Son directed the development and implementation of a new phase of development strategy, promoting scientific research, innovating the university governance model towards a streamlined, efficient, and internationally integrated approach, affirming its leading role in the Vietnamese higher education system.
Assuming the position of Acting Minister of Education and Training is expected to continue to provide strong impetus for fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training, meeting the requirements of national development in the new period.
The appointment of the Minister reflects the trust of the Party and the State in Comrade Hoang Minh Son's leadership abilities, management experience, and outstanding contributions in the field of education and training.
