Some outstanding achievements of Chu Thi Phuong Anh.
The arduous journey of writing a thesis
Sharing with the Vietnamese Student page of Tien Phong newspaper about her graduation thesis, she said: "I am grateful and proud to be the person who achieved the highest graduation thesis score in the Public Relations major: grateful for having met inspirational teachers, proud of myself for trying my best and not letting down the trust of my teachers."
Phuong Anh's graduation thesis topic is "Vietnam's national brand image before and after arrival in the perception of international students". This study aims to understand the image of Vietnam in the perception of international students before and after studying here.

Lecturers in Public Relations have assessed this as a new topic because it views Vietnam as a study abroad destination, not a tourist destination like many previous studies.
Phuong Anh confided that she chose this topic out of her great love for her homeland, the country and the Vietnamese people, and for the decent education and diverse cultural identities that she has experienced at Hanoi National University.
“I believe that Vietnamese people in general and Vietnamese teachers in particular have professional qualifications and teaching methods that are not inferior to those of other countries famous for education such as Australia, the US or Canada. Therefore, I am determined to conduct research on this topic, as well as try my best to complete it in the best way possible,” she explained.

The first difficulty she encountered was convincing her supervisor. With her research field being “national branding”, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen - Deputy Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication, entrusted her to Dr. Luong Van Ha. He is an expert in national branding research and a lecturer at the IÉSEG School of Business Administration, Catholic University of Lille, France.
Previously, Mr. Ha had never accepted an invitation to supervise a bachelor's thesis in Vietnam. Therefore, he asked Phuong Anh to send her CV and clearly state the topics she planned to pursue.

The second difficulty came from the teacher's strict requirements. As a researcher, he asked her to carry out a topic with high scientific content. The topic combined qualitative and quantitative research methods, required a large number of survey samples and required data processing with many strict procedures.
As a student majoring in literature, Phuong Anh struggled with the subject “Statistics for Social Sciences” in her first year. However, she was forced to learn statistical software on her own to process a series of data used as evidence for her research paper.
Finding international students to survey also gave her a headache. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of international students in Vietnam at the time of the survey (late 2022) was not much. Sometimes feeling too frustrated in the journey of "hunting" people, Phuong Anh took the risk of texting everyone with a foreign name that she found on social media to invite them to participate in the survey.
In the end, she found about 170 international students who agreed to support her. They came from many different countries such as China, Korea, Japan, Bulgaria, Ukraine, France, etc. and are currently studying at universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Phuong Anh's favorite motto in life is "Miracles will always come when we do not give up, because the universe will always listen to strong hearts" and "Where there is a will, there is a way". Therefore, she always has an open spirit, is not afraid of difficulties, failures, and courageously learns through practical experience. That is also the belief that makes the young girl determined to complete and reap the "sweet fruit" from her university graduation thesis.
A Gen Z that is always afraid of stability and meaninglessness
Since she was young, Phuong Anh has determined her desire to work in the media industry so that she can travel everywhere, connect with many people, and unleash her creativity. Therefore, she has outlined a specific learning path for herself, and set a target to complete each milestone on schedule.
Studying in the Literature class at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted (Hai Duong) helped her improve her vocabulary and writing skills. With an IELTS score of 7.0 in grade 11, she was admitted directly to the Public Relations major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Since her second year of university, Phuong Anh has been an intern at CMC Technology Corporation. Not stopping there, she decided to enroll in a double major in English Language at the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Phuong Anh confided that she is not a “bookworm”. It is the joy and excitement of acquiring new knowledge that attracts and motivates her to study more. Besides, the second major also helps a lot in the research process, which requires accessing huge sources of documents written in English. This is also a tool for her to realize her dream of bringing the image of Vietnam further.

Her early internship gave her the opportunity to apply the theories she learned at school to her work. For example, she applied her knowledge in the subjects of Writing Skills for Public Relations and Journalism Language to writing media articles and press releases for company events. Or the subject of Translation and Interpretation Skills helped her a lot when reading documents about technology products and writing content in English.
Starting work early also helped her learn a lot of new knowledge, from seemingly small skills that are also part of creating professionalism in the work process: time management, planning, and publication design.
However, her internship also forced her to face many challenges: accepting no weekends, or less time to rest and go out. To balance her life and heal herself, she often traveled every 6 months with friends and family using the money she earned from her part-time job.
As a Gen Z who is always afraid of stability and meaninglessness, Phuong Anh will be very disappointed in herself if she stands still from day to day without any new progress or achievements. During her student years, in addition to studying and working, she devoted herself to many extracurricular activities. The most memorable of which is the Am Sac 2021 National MC Talent Search Contest and most recently, the trip to Thailand within the framework of the ASEAN+3 Youth Camp 2023.
For the Music Competition, Phuong Anh was assigned the role of Head of Content, responsible for coordinating all content of the program. This is a position that requires creativity and great responsibility. Organizing during the complicated COVID-19 pandemic, she and other members had many sleepless nights thinking of ways to change the competition method and content to suit the epidemic situation.
As for the trip to Thailand, Phuong Anh was impressed because it was the first time she went abroad as a school representative for cultural diplomacy. The trip helped her make more international friends, understand more about the culture of ASEAN+3 countries and have unforgettable experiences in the Land of the Golden Pagoda.
Currently, Phuong Anh is managing marketing activities for 3 locations of an English center in Hanoi. Her main tasks include planning communications and supervising marketing activities to increase brand awareness. This job is an interesting combination of both Public Relations and English Language majors. With formal training in English and communications, she quickly understood the core of the brand to focus on highlighting it.
According to Phuong Anh, the luckiest and proudest thing for her right now is that she chose the right major that she is truly passionate about, instead of struggling with a major that she "randomly chose". In addition, Public Relations is also a potential major because of the practical knowledge and skills it brings to learners.
She expressed her opinion that university will be an interesting learning experience if we choose a major that suits our abilities, interests as well as the needs of society. Phuong Anh sent a message to young people: "Before deciding to choose a major, stop for a moment to listen to your heart: Who do you really want to become in the future?".
