Under the framework of the project "Feasibility study on promoting academic exchange in Japanese studies between Vietnam, Europe and the US" sponsored by the Toshiba Foundation (Japan), Prof.Dr Harald Fuess (Cluster of Exellence Asia and Europe in a Global Context, University Heidelberg) visited and worked at University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Prof.Dr Fuess has delivered two lectures to students of Division of Japanese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies on the topics "German Beer and Meiji Japan: The Modernization of Production and the Westernization of Taste” and "Islands of Memory: Okinawa and Gunkanjima in History and Contemporary Tourist Culture”. In the roundtable discussions, the young researchers and students listened to the Professor's experiences in studying Japan in Europe and received his useful advice.

In his meeting with Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh, Prof.Dr Harald Fuess discussed about the orientation for long-term cooperation between the two universities. It is hoped in the near future, Heidelberg University and USSH would continuously implement new cooperative activities in training Japanese studies, and would also discuss about developing new joint programs in other areas.
