Short-term training program on digital transformation in journalism.

On April 24, 2023, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities signed Decision No. 1342 on the promulgation of the Short-Term Training Program on Digital Transformation in Journalism, developed by the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training. Specifically, it is as follows:

1. General information about the training program

- Training program name: Digital transformation in journalism
- Target audience:
+ Officials, editors, reporters, and technicians of media organizations; people working in the media field and related professional fields (technology, human resource management, data management, etc.) who need to participate in training to improve their knowledge and skills in the field of digital transformation in media activities.
+ All individuals interested in and passionate about journalism and media in general, and digital journalism and media in particular.
- Training unit: Lecturers from the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) in collaboration with experienced journalists from media organizations.
- Certificate Name: Digital Transformation in Journalism
(English title: Digital transformation in Journalism)
- Certification body: University of Social Sciences and Humanities

2. Training Objectives

The Journalism and Media Professional Training Program equips learners with the fundamental and essential knowledge of digital transformation in journalism. After the course, learners will have the expertise and confidence to lead or participate in the implementation of digital transformation projects in media organizations, and effectively apply the knowledge learned to modern journalistic practices.

3. Program learning outcomes

3.1. Regarding knowledge
- Possess a thorough understanding of the overall issue of digital transformation in general, and digital transformation in journalism in particular.
- Possess a solid understanding of the fundamentals for defining digital transformation goals, technological infrastructure, data platforms and processes, human resource management, and digital culture.
3.2. Regarding skills
- Professional skills: Proficient in approaching and carrying out professional tasks to build and implement digital transformation projects in journalism; proficient in methods of planning, organizing models, and implementing reports to evaluate digital transformation activities in journalism.
- Personal skills: Develop logical thinking, systems thinking, and multi-dimensional analytical thinking skills.
- Teamwork skills: improving information gathering and idea generation skills, developing information processing abilities, and enhancing the ability to manage and organize work within a team, meeting the demands of increasingly multidisciplinary jobs.
3.3. Regarding moral qualities:
Cultivate professional ethics and comply with legal regulations regarding digital media journalism.

Graduates can take on roles as project leaders or participants in digital transformation projects and programs at media organizations, having the opportunity to develop their professional skills to become experts in the field of digital transformation in journalism at various levels, scales, and requirements.

4. Structure of the training program:

Total accumulated hours: 75 lessons, including:

- Number of practical hours: 15 sessions

The topics are developed based on subjects in the undergraduate and postgraduate training programs in Journalism and Media Management: Multimedia Communication, Broadcasting and Television Technology, Organization of Media Agencies, Journalism Economics, etc.
The topics may be adjusted or modified by up to 20% of the total course duration based on professional practice and student needs.

6. Forms of assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes for the course:

After 75 hours of instruction providing fundamental knowledge, students will complete a final exam consisting of news reports, feature articles, or interviews for online newspapers. Students will receive a graduation certificate upon meeting the following requirements:
- Attend at least 80% of class time.
- Achieve a minimum score of 5/10 on the final exam.
