Short-term Training Program on Digital Transformation of Journalism

On April 24, 2023, the President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities signed Decision No. 1342 on promulgating the Short-term Training Program on Digital Transformation of Journalism developed by the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training. Specifically as follows:

1. General information about the training program

- Training program name: Digital transformation of journalism
- Training subjects:
+ Officials, editors, reporters, technicians of press and media agencies; people working in the field of media and related professional fields (engineering, human resources management, data management...) who need to participate in training in knowledge and skills in the field of digital transformation in press and media activities.
+ All people interested in and love the field of journalism and media in general, and the field of digital journalism and media in particular
- Training unit: Lecturers from the Institute of Journalism and Communication (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) in combination with experienced journalists from press and media agencies.
- Certificate name: Digital transformation of journalism
(English name: Digital transformation in Journalism)
- Certificate issuing unit: University of Social Sciences & Humanities

2. Training objectives

The Journalism and Media Training Program equips learners with basic and necessary knowledge of digital transformation in journalism. After the course, learners will have the expertise and confidence to preside over or participate in implementing digital transformation projects for press agencies, and effectively apply the knowledge they have learned to modern journalism practices.

3. Program output standards

3.1. About knowledge
- Grasp general knowledge about digital transformation in general and digital transformation of newspapers in particular
- Understand the basic knowledge to determine digital transformation goals, technical technology infrastructure, data platform and processes, human resource management and digital culture
3.2. About skills
- Professional skills: Proficient in approaching and performing professional tasks to build and deploy digital transformation projects for newspapers; proficient in methods of building plans, organizing models and deploying reports to evaluate digital transformation activities for newspapers.
- Personal skills: Develop logical thinking skills, systematic thinking, multidimensional analytical thinking.
- Teamwork skills: improve information and idea gathering skills, develop information processing skills, management and work organization skills in groups, and meet the requirements of increasingly multidisciplinary work.
3.3. On moral qualities:
Practice professional ethics and comply with legal regulations on digital media operations.
3.4. Job position and professional development opportunities
Learners can take on the role of project manager or participate in digital transformation projects and programs at press and media agencies, and have the opportunity to develop professional expertise to become experts in the field of digital transformation of press activities at many different levels, scales and requirements.

4. Structure of the training program:

Total accumulated hours: 75 periods, including:
- Number of theory hours: 60 periods
- Number of practice hours: 15 periods

The topics are built on the basis of subjects in the undergraduate and postgraduate training programs in Journalism and Media Management: Multimedia Communication, Radio and Television Techniques, Organization of Press Agency Activities, Journalism Economics, etc.
Topics can be adjusted and changed up to 20% of the total course duration based on professional practice and student needs.

6. Form of testing and evaluating course learning outcomes:

After 75 lessons providing basic foundational knowledge, students will complete the final exam which is a series of news works, reflections or interviews in electronic newspapers. Students will receive a graduation certificate when they meet the following requirements:
- Attend at least 80% of class hours
- Achieve at least 5/10 points on the final exam.
